I'm sorry for your headache, Aragon, that is what Dell's are nuttin but a headache. Your gonna be pissed when shit starts going wrong, and you can't fix it.
BTW if anyone but a Dell tech does anything to your Dell, you void the warrenty, including putting any new cards inside it.

wth are you talking about? i have 2 dell laptops, my GF has a dell laptop, and 3 of my friends have a dell laptops. none of us can say anything bad about them. at work we have over 2000 dell computers. their turn around is great (next day on parts or 1-2 days with on-site). their tech support is usually pretty lenient. and we do all sorts of shit to our computers and not once have they ever even mentioned possibly voiding a warranty.

As a certified Service Technicain, I refuse to work on Dell's as I have been told from (Dell Canada) that any work I do on thier machines will instantly void the warrenty, Also work I have done on older Dell's have been a f*&king nightmare.
1/2 of thier harddrives dont respond nicely to being Gdisked (government level wipe), to general installation problems, I haven't yet me a Dell that likes to get an OS upgrade. On a friends Dell desktop I tried to disable the OB NIC when it failed to respond, and add a dlink pci, the Dell failed to recognize the PCI card, and wouldn't disable the OB, then she wanted to upgrade her video, again the machine wouldn't allow the OB video to be disabled.
These are problems I run into on a frequent basis with Dell. IMO Dell's can't be upgraded without alot of bullshit hassle.
IMO you can't go wrong with a custom build, you can go wrong with a brandname.
However Dell might have a different set of standards in the USA, than they do in Canada.

maybe they do have different standards in canada, but i would doubt it. we are not "certified service technicians" nor "dell certified technicians" and they let us repair our machines without question. i have personally installed upgraded parts in a number of dell computers and have never had a problem disabling onboard devices. as far as "their hardrives" having issues with wiping, they aren't manufactured by dell. we have seen western digital, maxtor, and seagate drives in our machines and they were all retail model numbers.

Re: Dell Products [Archive] - ForumsHQ
1. I bought a Dell Monitor, not a Dell computer.
2. Like you said, you're in Canada.
3. I have an old 19" crt Dell Monitor. It's worked great for years.
Thanks for your info, but I'm happy with my purchase.
P.S. What kind of parts do you have for your computer? Monitor? Printer? Speakers? What kind of car do you drive? What kind of speakers you got in there? etc etc. I'm sure you own many things that YOU are happy with even though others may perceive them to be shoddy products or products that were manufatured by companies with debatable tech support.
And while we're on it, do you really think the computer problems are specific to Dell? I've heard many stories about Sony, Compaq, Toshiba, just to mention a few.

Re: Dell Products [Archive] - ForumsHQ
Dell computers from what I've seen are great for office use and things like that. Their tech support is good and their machines are alright for the prices they ask for.
Computers I've owned: One custom built, one compaq laptop, one compaq desktop and two emachines. (these are the most recent ones.. the only one of those I don't have anymore is the laptop).
I've never had a problem with any of those machines.. I sold the laptop for a couple bucks to a friend of the family and they're still using it. That was the oldest machine at about 4 years. The compaq desktop is about 3 years, the one emachine is about 2 and a half, the custom built is a yearish and the most recent emachine is like 4 months old. All of them run great, the only upgrades have been salvaged harddrives from older machines. The only complaint I have on any of them is that the older emachine doesn't have enough RAM.. but that would be easy enough to fix, I'm just too lazy to do it.
Anyway, that's my two cents on this whole thread.

now that I re-read shaddow's post, I don't think he even went to the link! It doesn't even appear he knew it was a monitor.... Man, you really hate Dell that much?
