Fathers Day

Post by iNViSiGOD »

Well fathers day is arriving and this will be the first one that ill have to suffer thru w/o my father. He died about a month and a half ago and i was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to suffer thru this holliday knowing that there father wont be around.

Among things im doing is volunteering for the fathers day breakfast at the LLL Society (im a member there). Any other suggestions?

i don't seem to get upset or down about anything anymore. i look at life as a realist. if my father dies, there aint shit i can do about it. crying and feeling bad aint gonna bring him back, it aint gonna make me feel any better, and it sure as hell doesn't do any good for anyone else. i just tell my self there is nothing i could have done or could do that would make the situation any better, so why get down about it, life goes on. --just my 2c.

dude, that wasn't directed at you in any way at all. you asked how people deal with not having a father (i can only relate to a close family member) and i told you how *I* deal with it. notice the words I or ME are in every one of my sentances.

I lost my father when I was 7, so I can't tell you how to go through Father's Day without him becuase I was too young to develope any tactics worth anything. But two years ago, I lost my sister. She was 31 and she died of cancer. She had a son and a husband (who had commited suicide two weeks prior to heer death which she was unaware of because she lived away from him.)

But she would always bring a certain dish to the Christmas party every single year. It was hers. No one else brought it. Right after she died, we all lived in silence. I bought my other sister a card and a very beautiful braclette. Inside the card I said how we could do this together. She never responded. The months passed and we began to miss her more than ever when her son had a school fundraiser and his mother wasn't around to convince everyone to buy things making him the #1 seller at his school. We missed her so much. But we still were silent. Christmas came along with the party and the food that everyone had been bringing and making for years. When we went to get our plates, there was Michelle's dish. Her sweet Chocolate Declare specially made so the ones allergic to milk could have some. Shocked at first, no one touched it. It went throughout almost the entire night without one person placing the spauala in to scoop out their share. But someone finnally took some and sat down and ate it. They started saying how much they missed my sister. Tears welled up in our eyes, but we listened. And eventually, we all were saying how much we missed her. The things that she used to do. And the way her smile would brighten the entire room. We sat there and spilled out our inner feelings which we were so scared to do before. The next day, I woke up with a light heart and a feeling of closure with her. I had sat there with ones that loved her just as much as I did, and we all shared memories of her. That was the best thing that I could have ever done to ease the pain.

TALK ABOUT IT!!!!
