I recently (last week) bought a 1992 Ford Thunderbird LX, 2-door 8cyl 5.0l, 1 ding in the body (I searched, trust me), 132k miles with a new tranny put in at 85k. It runs great, has a small oil leak easily stopped by a gasket replacement for the oil pan / plug. Perfect interior - leather seats, power everything (a plus or negative, depending on the life of the electronics), but the damned radio doesn't work. I'm terrible dealing with that kind of electronics.. The radio turns on, functions, but the speakers don't have any sound coming out - I'm guessing a wire short somewhere. $1500 for this BEAUTY of a car - and coming from my beat up 90 Honda CRX 4speed manual, I'm in LOOOVE. It's like going from a tin can to a tank. :)
Anyhow, it's got power, but seems a little sluggish when I romp down on the gas pedal - I'm guessing it's needing a tune up and total fluid change, since it sat for awhile before I bought it. But does anyone have any advice on what I can do to give it a lil bit more power from the get-go?

fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve, check your hoses, make sure exhaust flows fine, spark plugs, distributor cap and reset ECU after you're done with all that ;)
oh, if you have an o2 sensor, check/replace that as well.

That car definitely has an 02 sensor (probably two, can't remember). Might want to throw on a new set of decent plug wires as well, just for shits and giggles.
Of course, none of all this is really to improve performance of course, but to get it back up to 'regular' snuff. After that, shit, there are SO many things out there for the 5.0 engine that we should first talk about how much you wanna spend... :yeah:

Oh yeah - and the radio - it's probably something wrong inside the unit - so you might want to think about swapping out the head unit for something better.
Then of course, you might want to add an amp...
and swap the speakers...

Anyhow, to try this shit again...
The funny thing about the radio in the car is, along with the regular stock head unit there is, below the ac controls, an old-as-the-hills CD-Player (that doesn't work either). So when I do upgrade I'm going to have a big hole there that I'll have to cover with a custom-cut piece of something-or-other. But that comes later, after the mechanical stuff's done. As far as performance enhancements, again that'll have to wait until I get the needed things done and get this higher-paying job I've been waiting to hear back from.
Anyhow, to try this shit again...
