This car might be of interest, the 1970s Australian Chrysler Charger. Midway in size between a pre 1974 compact and intermediate, and powered by a version of the US Valiant I6 fitted with a "Hemi" style cylinder head (Hemi as in that normally associated with V8s). Top version was a model called the E49, fitted with a 302 bhp gross version of the Australian Hemi 265 ci I6, o-60 6.1 seconds, 1/4 mile 14.4 seconds. , only available with four on the floor in this version, hence the "4" decal on the front wing.

V8s were available, but they tended to be luxo model versions with automatic, plush interior and what not. All the sporty editions had the I6. :wordup:

I dig those models - there isn't anything like them in the US (unless you go GET one from Down Under, of course)...

They are going to be mfg near Toronto Canada. Should be out in the fall. First editions do not have all wheel drive, later I guess.

BADass car right there.. hemi in a station wagon?? band equipment, boards, bricks, dude.. what couldn't you move in that thing? And with the power under the hood, towing anything would be no problem.. if I had 30+ grand to spend on a car, I think that'd be my choice..

Never knew about the S6 Hemi. Now i might have to see if i can find some hemi heads that size and a way to retrofit them into a slant 6 and make a hemi volare/aspen

Engineers took the 265-inch straight-six Highand Park had created as a truck motor in the ’60s and developed it into a literal screamer.



Whoops, I'm afraid the motor is unique on closer inspection of the article, see above quote. Although it would be nice to have an aftermarket hemi head to fit a slant 6 in theory, there are a lot of slant 6s still around the place.

Thats why i said find a way to retrofit them... Theres quite a bit you could do with even the head and a set of pistons and someone with a metal shop.
