Can't Start an FTP server with port 21 [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by tmtheman »

Hi there.

I'm working On Windows XP SP1 ..

I want to start an FTP Server using Bulletproof 2.30. however, when i set the port to 21 it says it's used.

I know it's a firewall problem, but i've already disabled the windows internet connection firewall and it's not working.

I don't want to change the port because my frineds in the uni can't access ports for ftp except on 21 ( university policy).

So if you have any tips on that , please tell me how to do it. i tried changing and playing with settings ..etc. i even tried Serv-U server, but nothing.

thanks in advance.

hmm. I don't think windows firewall actually prevents you from binding to ports... You sure you don't have something else using that port??

Also, try using port 80, 25, 110, etc...

i'm a little puzzled as to why it says it's used. did you try ftp'ing to yourself to see if it responds? maybe you have some kind of spyware going on. could also try to NMAP (http://www.insecure.org/nmap/nmap_download.html) youself. do you have any other type of server application running?
