NEW mud recruiting: read if interested

Post by Kai Shadowbane »

Presently recruiting ppl for:

mapmaking

general quest ideas (tho will have to fit with current world idea and general game setting)

item ideas

Background:

The old gods have been sealed away in the core of the world, locking the world in a general chaos. Their presence is only felt in the guardian dragons that look over the chosen races. Due to the old wars, most races are untrusting of others, and are generally hostile.

This mud is a complete wipe, meaning everything minus the original DLL coding will be original (minus that auto Kai power updating has been taken out to bring more class options), each class will have multiple paths they can take, and each race will have multiple starting point options.

contact me via ICQ if interested.

Spammers or rudeness will not be tolerated, and each decision will be talked about as a team or taken up by one of the 2 original designers.

what a waste, you expect to have a big following with a mud that is the same codebase but extremely different with edits? you can't market this, you can't do anything good with it

if you're going to do something big like that, you should do what evan elias did, start your own damn mud

I didn't recruit you to act like an ass in forums, only decent replies will be recognized. And I don't expect it to have a giant following... initially. besides, how would you know if you liked it unless you played it, which I know you haven't.

I'm looking forward to it.. If you need any help on the "creative" side of things - monster / item descriptions or names, let me know. I'm not into the specifics of what monster or item specs should be, so I wouldn't be much help there.

um thanks but keep in mind, doing that took me several hundred hours over the course of several years... you cant flame people in this forum just because they don't want to make a mud from scratch... doing that takes frickin forever as a hobbyist project! :nope:

hell, my planned complete recode/redesign of doormud is taking even longer just because I'm having trouble finding the time to work on it... granted, it'll be awesome when its done (probably the first sql-driven mud with javascript module support) but who knows if anyone will still be playing muds whenever its finally finished!

imho, kai's plan to make an edited majormud with a completely fresh game world is a great idea. It has the major benefits of having a game system / interface that is already 100% familiar to majormudders (no learning curve w/ new commands etc), and it'd be compatible with megamud. Meanwhile you couldn't do either of those with a custom-coded mud, as metro would likely sue.

Thanks for your opinion, moron. :loser:

If you think majormud (which would tend to imply stock unedited majormud, no less) is the best mud ever, you haven't played very many muds.

Any mud that is based on scripting has some severe design problems right off the bat. How good can a game possibly be when its so horrendously boring that people make their computers play for them?

Now, I'm not trying to say DoorMUD is better than MajorMud; it's not. *In its current form*, DoorMUD has its share of problems too, which I've admitted many times and is the main motivation for why I'm completely recoding and redesigning the game... currently in progress, should have releases by the end of summer, and full feature set (incl stand-alone servers) within a year. The feature set will bury MajorMud's by a longshot, especially since parts of DoorMUD 1.xx will be open source... it'll be a much better platform for creating an extensively sysop-edited mud.
