It's called constructive criticism. I gave you points on how to make your bbs better. When people connect and see an unmodified WG intro screen they're immediately turned off, as i was. People want to see care put into the bbs, not something that was installed in an hour.

You know, in short Syntax... I completely disagree with you.

I don't know all that many people (Besides you now, of course) that really care what the BBS logon screen and menu's look like, as long as a quality mud, with good players and good motives is up and running.

I thank you again for the criticism, but like I said, I completely disagree. I don't know anyone... and I can repeat that again -- anyone, who either plays on a board, or left a board solely because of great, spectacular, and entertaining '1980's' ANSI menus.

The board is brand new, so of course there are going to be things here and there that need work/improvement. It's a learning process, and certain things will be changed/added, while certain things won't... And I for one can tell you right now that the BoinkMachine isn't at any point going to have 'ansi' menu's.

By the way, for your grace, the TEST account was deleted and disabled... Thank you for pointing that out.

Your welcome to come on over... If not having ansi menus don't bother you to much...

Actually, he's right, some show does prove that you put more than 20 mins setting a board up, opening nmr for 2 mins to multiply exp, and unlimiting stuff, and then advertising. Note that he didn't say they had to be flashy, just enough to show that you spent a bit of time on the bbs.

While ANSI graphics and custom menu's are neat I guess, I still don't care one way or the other. The only time I ever see that shit is when I first logon to the board. Menu's and graphics don't make your mud any better or worse then someone who has em.

Third, I've noticed a severe lack of Globals and ANSIs on these new BBSs. Add flare to your system, make it look unique and for gods sake add globals Some people who log in like to know when the sysop is on or if a buddy of theirs is on without having to hunt for them in mud. Globals add alot of enhancements to mud as ANSIs add personality to your Worldgroup setup in general. Lunar Dynamics, and Morbid Faination are two prime examples of good systems with nice ANSI schemes. Nobody likes a dull green and yellow text based system.

Syntax has a point, but so does Raiden. I would've worded my criticism different, maybe instead of just jumping down Raiden's throat with it right off the bat sorta eased into it. "Raiden, good job opening the board, but here are some things you may want to consider".... And I probably would have approached it in PM instead of posting it for all to see. I would've been offended by the instant criticism, were I in Raiden's shoes. It is his first venture into the BBS SysOp scene after all (I believe?). I could give a flying squirrel's ass what the logon screen looks like; I have been awed before by the effort some folks have put in, but in NO case would I log off immediately just on that basis. But everyone's different.. And I highly doubt the reason he only has 5 (which is incorrect) people playing is because of his logon screen... maybe it's because he just advertised it today? I don't know, but that might just be the reason....

In any case, give it a shot, folks..

i dont understand what i said to make it seem like i was jumping down his throat. the only semi-mean comment was the first in which i said, "this may be why you only have 5 users." the rest was just what i noticed and screen caps. if you think what i said was insulting, you should really read some of the other posts on this board. maybe it looks that way because i didn't candy-coat my points with a bunch of :bs: like, "Raiden, good job opening the board, but here are some things you may want to consider".

the majority of boards that people post on MMB have all of what i mentioned. i logged on this morning hoping to check out what cool things he may have done and was greeted with green and yellow and all of the default menus and everything. the setup he had could have literally been accomplished in 30 minutes. he didn't put up a BBS, he put up a mud.

btw, usually when BBS Ad posts get high traffic like this, it helps the board a lot more then it hurts it. no one takes what i say as the holy grail, they'll still log on and decide for themselves.
