Difficulty Level/Regen

Post by Speed »

Any way to make a regen modifier?

Let's say I want to take the labyrinth, and make it regen more. This could be done one of two ways, adding more regen spots, or adding higher regen in those spots. Adding more regen spots would keep the difficulty level the same, yielding more exp, but adding higher regen in the current spots would make the labyrinth a more difficult area, yielding more exp.

This is mainly an idea for those crowded BBS's where people are fighting tooth and nail for script spots. If the script spots were upped in regen to accomodate, there would be less of a problem.

Now I know all the crap with the lairs and max area and shit, but maybe with a little thought we could devise an semi-automatic way of upping regen in certain areas?

I imagine it would fairly easy to do, unless an area's room #'s are scattered around the dats. One thing you could do is (gasp) make new areas! Heh. I can give you a few of mine if you want... I usually have regen in every room anyway.

All you do to add higher regen is up the max area. Let me see if I can explain this right:

The max area, set in the control room, is the number of monsters that can possibly regen at 1 time within the rooms that use that particular control room. By raising this number, regen in the area is upped, in that monsters don't simply regen in mobs, they regen quite randomly as well..much like areas such as the mod 9 graveyard, some of the dragon spots, etc. Upping the max area causes more monsters to regen than normal, that would be the only way to do what you're talking about..unless you wanted to go through and raise the max number of monsters regening per lair, I would venture to say that any other changes would be much more severe than what can be 'implemented' by someone such as Syntax...

It sounds to me like what you're suggesting could be done by simply raising the max area...granted, thats kind of a bitch to go through and find every control room to raise that..but ya gotta do what ya gotta do if ya want it bad enough ;)

I thought the max area field was completely restricted to what the lairs regen'd? Say you've got five lairs with a room regen of 4each. That's 20 mobs. Say your max area is 25. I thought the regen in the area would stay at 20? They regen randomly, outside of lair rooms?

If so, then great, that makes it easier. I just would like more boards to start upping regen to help with the clogged areas. Not too many people have time to make a shitload of new areas to hold 50+ people. Doubling the regen in certain areas would make for more scripting room, and also open up areas for scripting that nobody really touches anymore (like the crater, black house, cracked plains, fungus forest, etc..).

That's where nightmare comes in. Maybe generate a list, between a specific set of room #s, in one room at a time row format, with a couple editable fields in it (such as max area, control room, lair, etc...). This would help with quick viewing an areas regeneration statistics, and being able to edit them easily.

[code]

Map Room MA CR

15 2407 25 2400

15 2445 25 2430

yadda yadda...

True..that wouldn't be a bad idea..I do think it would probably be a little hard to code though, but it would be cool. And yeah, that's what max area is...if you've ever been in an area where shit just wont stop regening on top of you if you're trying to rest, or just moving through non-lair rooms, that's cuz the max area is above the set number of monsters to regen in that area..

Though, I don't know exactly how much above whats set to regen youll have to raise the max area for it to work how youd want it, I'd start with 15 or so though, because I don't imagine 5 above the set number of regens would do too much.

nod, and this idea is only if current sysops like the idea. I don't have a board, so only if current sysops would use it would there be a reason to implement it. For one, I'd like to see more regen on morbid so I can get some decent exp in an overcrowded realm.

hear hear! It is quite hard to find a scripting spot in which there isn't already at least 1 or 2 people. If there was more regen, adding another person to the mix wouldn't hurt the xp rate of the other folks.

Well, it would hurt the xp rate. It just wouldn't bring it below the normal exp rate.

People would generally be getting more exp rates on smaller boards, but bigger boards will be leveled out. Plus, the areas would be a little bit tougher, so it would even itself out.
