Grin Haze...let the man advertise, we welcome legit BBS's to advertise here too, hehe. Some of the people who visit here like to play legit, they just play hexed because legit gets to be so boring..hehe.
And Disciple - doubt I'll play because I'm not too big a fan of legit, however just out of curiosity..is there a deal out of paying for a year? Like $5/Month, $50-55 for a year? Things like that..I just know a few legit BBS's do things like that, so thought I'd ask for anyone interested.
Not to toot my own horn, but I know where you're coming from. I helped run the notorious bbs (one of the first if not the first publicly playable edited boards) and was responsible for their edits. Pre any mud editors mind you... all done with hexedit. I released the first 10x exp 'patch' back in the day as well, but that was many many moons ago... I'm 100% legit now and fully intend to stay that way :)
As far as the pricing will go after the inital 3 or 4 free months, we do offer breaks for getting more time $5/month, $12.50/3 months, $25/6 months, $50/year -- all come with 2 chars and sys goto / sys map. Shouldn't break anyone's pocket book... Only reason I charge at all is because I'm being charged for the bandwidth. This is a hobby for me, and should it start paying for itself, the prices for chars will most likely decrease.

Re: Historic BBS Reset
no offense but advertise on www.mudcentral.com. They have a larger userbase of suck..people willing to pay for bbs usage. Here 99% of our "normal" users are free play.
Good luck to you and your business.

Re: Historic BBS Reset
If i remember correctly one of the first edited MUDS was "Hier Archy", i remember back in about 1997 when i was a co-op and we invited lance to try OUR mud out. All he said was "I wont technically support this realm" and that was it. :D
Re: Historic BBS Reset
Sounds like a good deal to me, $50 a year for 2 chars and sys go/map..best deal I've seen legit prior was $50/year 1 char no sys.
If I played legit, I might actually play there ;)
And iNViS - He said 'one of the first if not the first'..that only means one of the first, possibly the first..grin. I don't doubt Hier Archy might have been first though, seems everywhere I turn I hear something about that BBS or meet people from it. I just wish I was around at the time it was up, seems like everyone and their mother played there ;)

Heir Archy was waaay after notorious. For what it's worth though, I was sysop there for a bit as well. I was "Tical" back in the day for anyone who may (or may not) remember me.

Re: Historic BBS Reset
just for the record, I personally play legit. i DO pay to play. I have 2 chars on entconn, and 2 on entmud as well. I play not so legit boards too. Its mostly because on legit boards, you have more of a chance to be unique. if you get to the best items in the game first, you shine, if not, you pale in comparison. On editted boards, most of the times, lims are not an issue. so basically everyone has the same chances at getting things. which, mind you, i think is great. it makes game play alot more fun and easy. being able to get higher level quicker is a plus as well. there are normally more active people on editted boards as well.
i am not knocking anyones board until i have been there. i played on morbid for a while, and had fun. there were just too many issues with the board staying online at the time so i moved on. then i played on black dragon. again *at the time* they were having issues keeping them up and down as well. that said, i can only think of a couple of occurances in the past 2 years that my legit boards have been down for more than a couple hours. and even then, the sysop (who does not play) always credited accounts with a couple of extra days to compensate for the downtime.
like i said, i play on both sides of the tracks. i for one, am glad he advertised here.

Re: Historic BBS Reset
Just FYI the BBS was reset last night. Just to re-cap we're on a dual DS3 (T3) connection, and it'll be free for (at least) the next 3 months. Check it out at telnet://bbs.bluehard.com or http://bbs.bluehard.com
