You can make calls through broadband..I have done this also.



I have also used a phone company $25/mo and I got unlimited calls anywhere, because once I got to them they just used the net to transfer calls.

Both ICQ & Yahoo offer a VOIP service, (I think MSN messenger has it too, but not 100%) you dont need to fuck with a modem, it all can be done thru your soundcard, and a mic/speaker or boom mic/headset.



Setting up your modem to make voice calls is a pain in the ass, and to most landlines it sounds like crap. in 2001 I use to call my dad in SoCal from Vancouver thru Yahoo, back then it ididn't cost anything, but now they charge a small fee. SoundBlaster has a VIOP soundcard which you can make LD phonecalls (free if the person on the other end has one)
