Absolute Newbie Question

Post by Esdras »

Hey guys, I was wondering how to get MM working on my computer? I installed WG and MM. I don't care about adding modem/TCP etc things, I just want to be able to connect to it with this same computer through telnet. However, when I run the server and then try to use telnet to connect to my ip through port 23, it doesn't work. Did I maybe install it wrong? Or is it even possible to connect to the BBS on the same system? Any help is appreciated. :)

are you behind a router at all? if you are you will need to connect to the 192.168.x.x IP. if you are not, you can connect using 0.0.0.0

i'm not sure if the local loopback address (127.x) will work if WG is set to bind to some other address. you may need to set your IP address to AUTO in the general setup under "TCP/IP Settings"

Yeah, I'm behind a proxy. So I should use telnet to connect to the proxy? Or my IP? Or 127.0.0.1? When I try to connect to 127.0.0.1 or my IP, it gives me the same error message as when I try to connect to outside boards. I.E. can no establish a connection. I don't see why the proxy should make any difference when I'm running the board on my own computer?

it wouldn't ... throw the proxy/router ideas in the trash. he asked about a router because most people that have a router usualy configure their IP to a 192.168.x.x address.

did you check the setting i asked you about?

have you disabled any of WG's modules?

when wg loads, does it say anything in the loading screen about conflicts and such? maybe paste in here the text from the audit trail after it boots.

OK, well when I installed I chose neither TCP/IP or Modem. I don't want/need those, I only want to connect from this machine TO this machine using megamud. :) Is there anyone I can AIM regarding the setup of this board? I'm not even sure I installed correctly. I installed WG, then MM, added MM to the tree, but I'm not sure I did it right. Anyways, here is what it says from the audit trail:

Server UP:V3.30-256(889651)-Ready to service users

MajorMUDv1.11n-WG3NT (Aug 28 20-Majormud allocating buffers and reading CNF)

Majormud-256 users- Majormud Buffers allocated and CNF options verified

MajorMud found database update-8/28/03 11:11:52 (80150528)

Also, I'm on Windows ME if that means anything. :)

that's why. even though you don't want outside connections you still need TCP/IP. when you connect through telnet you're using an IP address and communicating via TCP.

Alrighty, I'm reinstalling WG with it now. But do I need a host/domain name?

EDIT: Ok, I installed TCP/IP and now when WG starts it says:

Server Up

init_webd-regtcpsvr[] failed

Allocating CNF

CNF options verified

Databse Update

NNTP not initialized-No news server configured

WL: TCP/IP LAYER-Located the Galacticomm ICO.

Alright, I opened up telnet and tried to connect to both my IP and 127.0.0.1. Neither one worked, but I think it has something to do with the regtcpsvr line. Any suggestions?
