try Context Based Access Control List filtering.

(CBAC filtering) to forward ports.

#1) pantharen, stop instigating flame wars (it was you who let out the first 'personal' attack here).



#2) a router and a firewall have many of the same functions and qualities and therefor NIN is partially correct in what he's telling you do to. though he did say "what kinda router do you use?" and followed up with "it's still a firewall" in his next post, even though he never said firewall in the first place.



#3) you don't "write" a CCNP :) ... it's a certification (Cisco Certified Network Professional)



with that said ... you do still need to configure your firewall to either forward or allow incoming traffic on port 23. most firewalls have routing capabilities and allow you to forward ports and such. they have to allow you to at least unrestrict a port. if that thing of yours doesn't allow you to configure it at all (idiot proof) you'll have to ditch it or find something else.

you are the one not reading the posts ... i tried to look up the specs on your POS firewall but couldn't because the company you bought it from must be so new that they don't even have support pages. now, maybe if YOU had read my post, you would see that routers and firewalls ARE ALIKE in that they have many of the same qualities.



facts:



a firewall blocks ports, a router blocks ports

most firewalls can forward ports, routers can forward ports

firewalls are a device in between the internet and your computer, routers are a device between the internet and your computer

firewalls require tweaking to allow certain application's traffic to pass through, routers require tweaking to allow certain application's traffic to pass through

your firewall is blocking incoming traffic on port 23, you need to do something to it to stop it from doing so.





WHETHER YOU HAVE A ROUTER OR A FIREWALL WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO GET IT WORKING IS THE SAME. NIN said you had a router *1* time, that's it. if you waste any more of our time we'll simply close the thread and wont help you.

AlphaShield costs $99, yet you can get an $80 router has all of these features AND a 4-port switch AND wireless support...



Or get a SOFTWARE firewall that costs half as much and has much more functionality...



I don't really see why this "AlphaShield" product exists, or why its company is still in business.
