Stationary Stretch Background Question... [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by ShroudOfStatic »

question.. if anybody knows how to do this with any language at all.. the script used on the nine inch nails message boards ( www.nin.com/dboard/ ) which causes the background to stretch to fit the screen, only works if your page doesn't scroll, at all. when your page starts to scroll it tiles the extra space below with the image at it's actual size. Now, what i've been searching high and low for, for quite some time, is a way to make the image stretch to fit, PLUS be stationary. so you would have your jazz scrolling over top of it without it moving, but still stretching to fit the dimentions of your window. Too good to be true? I doubt it. I just haven't been able to get code to work. All of my pages tend to go well into the land of scrolling. Not a happy camper.

make a new thread for that... i'd do it but they didn't give me mods yet

but fyi, look at the page source, it has the script, they did it in javascript

======================

well, as i said, the script that's on there causes it to tile when it scrolls.. It isn't stationary, it just strecthes to fit.. If you take that page and make the window really small, you'll see what i'm talking about.. I thought I had it made in the shade when I tested it on my main page to see if it worked ( http://members.cox.net/distantmirage/index2.html ) .. but when I scrolled down it showed the image which was strecthed at the main top part, tiled... Just sucks, because any combination of code from any java script website just doesn't work.. Sometimes it'll even throw it on top of the website, that's fun too. Background, in the foreground, covering the website.. Yeah. Real fun.

here's the deal...

it looks like the code only makes the image fit the current screen on mine, it won't tile, but that seems to work (http://www.raybdbomb.com/test/index.html) but once you go past the visible screen it shows just the background color.

perhaps if you combine that with this code for html somehow

Background Image

which makes it so that the background image is stationary instead of scrolling, that will solve your problem....

tried.. tried... and tried... sucks.. sucks ass.. :)

i mean, once you scroll down and see the background color that negates the entire purpose.. sucks.

(not going well, but then again i've got a headache.. trying to get it imported into existing pages.. freaking touchy javascript.. )

(page i'm working it into =

... i really need to break down and hire this work out, tweaking knobs, hammering guitar chords into my hands and brain, memorizing waveform settings for perfecting certain sounds, i can spend many hours on

looking at this god damn code, not so much

yeah, I never got it to work.. I ended up going to bed.. I really hate javascript.. I'm going to have to actually read some tutorials about it, blah.. I'm about to just go with black backgrounds and say to hell with it all..
