Sarah Seabury Ward, of Newbury, Mass., was accused of illegally sharing more than 2,000 songs through Kazaa, including rapper Trick Daddy's "I'm a Thug." The music companies threatened to hold her liable for up to $150,000 for each song.
Isn't $150,000 max (even though they won't get that) a bit much, PER SONG? How much money do radio companies spend per song played, isn't it something like .07 cents? Come on now, I don't think each song did $150,000 in damages - since a CD with ten tracks costs less than $1.5 million to produce. Korn made one that was $2million (which sucked horribly) and that was a breaking the bank high-dollar cd.
How can they possibly justify $150,000 per song?

Perhaps they justify it by only prosecuting a few, attempting to get from them what the whole group allegedly owes.

But in a court of law, unless you are an organized group, you are a singular person doing a *whatever*, not as a part of a big group and then responsible for what they do too.
I mean in this case, hell, they could eventually go after everyone
and THEN make what, 1,000,000x what they would have made if the thing was never even around to begin with
if you look closely, they never said they stopped with just these few people, it's just these people that are caught in the list by them... so far.
so, in conclusion, FUCK THE RIAA

Meanwhile, the recording industry group has dropped one of the 261 lawsuits, a case filed against a 66-year-old sculptor who apparently was targeted in a case of mistaken identity.
Gonna have to start sharing threw grandpa's computer, and just usen his ip and computer as a host for all my illegal activties. If he is dead, they can't prosecute him :>
