Settings up games and doors..
Trying to setup WG 3.30 with same games and modules.
I'd like to setup some doors, and I remember from years back that doors had to be on a seperate computer, but there was a 3rd party software we used that bypassed this requirement and allowed doors to work on the same machine.
Anyone know of said software? I know GameSrv and Sychronet BBS software work as great servers, but can they be tricked to be on the same machine? I have two machines, but i'd rather keep it all on ONE.
Any insight? I'm desperate to get these games up for the users..

i've run wg and synchro on the same comp before... however you can't have them both run on the default telnet port. you'll have to change the synchro port to something else for it to work

No ray, he means by rlogin not telnet... rlogin makes the connect "smooth" (no need for user to create a separate account on the game server, the connection is transparent)
WorldGroup's rlogin module has a bug which prevents you from doing an rlogin to your own IP... it just plain doesn't work :( That's why sysops typically run Synchronet or GameSrv on a separate computer.
There's one DEFINITE solution, which is to use WG 2.0 DOS with Vircom TCP/IP, since Vircom's rlogin module works correctly. But, this is a pain, no one wants to run WG 2 DOS.
I've *heard* that if you have a second NIC in your pc, then you can assign it a different IP and get rlogin to work right on one computer. Extending this thought, I would think it would be possible with just a router (or any device that supports MAC address spoofing and/or port forwarding). Basically trick WorldGroup into thinking that the rlogin connection is going to a different IP, or maybe it has to be a different MAC address.
If you give these a try please let me know if you have any success!
btw if you need the general instructions for running Synchronet as an rlogin door server, hit my site at http://doormud.com/wg/index.html.

Thanks for your reply.
Well - I setup Synch on another machine. Attempting to follow the directions on your site (which, by the way, kicks ASS. been a MAJOR help), I'm unsure as to where I set the default RLogin connection to the second machine's IP? I checked in General Setup options, but nothing.

Re: Settings up games and doors..
Theoretically then, couldn't you set synchronet up with a diff telenet port, and then use something like dyndns to log in to the same pc?

I'm not completely sure what you mean -- do you mean, where to set up the rlogin module in WorldGroup? Or do you mean, where to configure the rlogin server in Synchronet?
If you mean the WorldGroup one, it's a WG module of some sort, hopefully someone on here can help out :)
If you mean on the Synchronet side, its configuration is in the telnet server's configuration screen.

I don't think that would work... doesn't Dynamic DNS still map a virtual subdomain to your same IP address? So when WorldGroup looked up your DNS, it would still be its own IP :(
I think you might need to trick it into thinking its a totally different IP, or maybe you need a different MAC address from the device, I'm not really sure (or even sure if this method works at all, that's just what I've heard but not confirmed).
I don't know how/why WorldGroup's rlogin module has that bug anyway, it doesn't make sense... it makes the rlogin connection perfectly fine (and Synchronet even shows a connection) but for some reason WorldGroup refuses to display any output to the user if the rlogin connection is going to your internet IP (or even if its going to localhost)

Well technically, the rlogin and the telnet should have the same bug, and it would stop someone from looping connections, and basically freezing the board, if not at least locking down all available lines.

I think he was trying to avoid the 2nd machine route
