new mmb: vb3

Post by Rust In Peace »

Since I can't reply in the announcement forum, I'll do it here.

I think quick reply should be turned on. That warning is where the board is mostly in branched style. However, vb has always been in a top to bottom, old to new format. Most people will either continue to use that, or use top to bottom, new to old format, like Speed described. Either way though, it won't mess up the replies in the thread for 99% of the people here. And it'll save us the annoying extra click. :)

Also, minimum post length appears to be 7 characters. Kinda a lame restriction imo.. espesially if mods get to bypass it.

keep everything related to the upgrade here. I won't reply to you unless it's in this thread.

I think it's too early to say whether the other views will be used or not.

The "annoying extra click" is nothing if you have something worthwhile to say and not just spam/garbage. Same with minimum post length.

Mods get to open/close/edit posts and you have a problem with the fact that mods might not have to adhere to the min post length rule? :hmm:

i posted this in the 'vb3 installed' thread:

it's a board wide option, not a personal option. if you dont specify who you are replying to, then the threading becomes useless. it makes sense to leave it the way it is (if we want to enable threading). clicking a button is no big deal (it doesn't refresh the whole page or anything).

and it even jumps your screen down to the box, so if you dont click the button you gotta scroll anyway.

I like it. Once you get used to it you will not even remember the other way. I like the way it works with hybrid and threaded views, so I would say you getting out voted on this one!

How many mods post less than 7 chars? They're not half as bad as some of the spammers we have here ;)

well, so far i notice one small bug with the normal setups. i'm getting emails for every post of the forums that i'm subscribed to. i tried to unsubscribe and resubscribe (selecting "daily updates" as my subscription option) and i still get emails for every post. being emailed for every post isn't even an option so i dont know why it's doing it. i just removed my subscriptions for now.
