Chong jailed for selling glass

Post by EvanElias »

Well, this is certainly a sad day... Tommy Chong, of "Cheech & Chong" movies fame, has been jailed for running a web site that sold glassware... :( He's been sentenced to 9 months in jail, $20,000 fine plus forced to forfeit $100,000 of earnings from the business.

AND stupid fox corporation fired him from "That 70s Show" (he played Leo, one of the funniest side characters)... a show in which the characters smoke up in every episode... does it make ANY sense that they'd fire him for a weed paraphenalia-related charge? uggg.

stupid feds.

Chong admitted that his company, which operated as Chong Glass and employed 25 glass blowers, sold some 7,500 bongs and pipes until February 14, when federal drug agents raided his California home and business. Authorities also seized about a pound of marijuana.

He knew what he was doing, he knew of the risk. It's another day, another dumbass.

the media is supposed to parent the stars so they don't run amok? That's absurd dude. Granted, this wasn't a heinous crime, but it was a crime nonetheless. If you want this stuff changed, get out and vote. If the 18-25 crowd went to the polls in droves, you could start getting a lot more things accomplished.

We have bigger problems then a little bit of weed. Kinda sad. Maybe they should turn all thier efforts into feeding the children that go day to day starving in America. Yes thats right, we have kids starving in our own country. He couldve easily just said the bongs are works of glass art and so be it, hes free.

I don't see why selling glassware is illegal in the first place. Many states don't even have laws against that... its frickin pieces of glass, and it can be used for legal purposes (tobacco smoking, or just decoration). Why should you get 9 months jail, 1 year probation, $20k in fines and $100k in penalties for that?!?

As for the 1lb of weed thing... yeah, that's illegal, but again the above penalties are FAR too steep considering the crime. And knowing Chong's history, 1lb could EASILY just be personal use for the guy, rather than intent to distribute.
