I have wg & mmud installed on my desktop, if I copy the dats from the desktop to the laptop will all my edits and everything copy over, or do I have to redo them all?
Also will the game be playable if I just copy the dats over?
And one other question, how can I lower the chance of lag occuring on my system, as my DSL has a bandwidth cap.
(I dont remember what my cap is)

If I lower the number of users accessing my system (currently sitting at 256) to say 56 or lower would that lower the chance of lag on the system?

As long as you have all of the dats, you could toss them anywhere and Nightmare will still read them alright.. There was a period of time where I was doing edits for Sinister when I didn't even have worldgroup or anything on my computer.. Just Nightmare and some Dats.. You'll be fine..
And if you mean changing the max number of open nodes from 256 to 56, will that make your system lag less? no. If you only have 56 people logged on instead of 256? Definately.

One thing you can try though, besides not running anything you don't absolutely need while the server is up, is hitting ctrl-alt-del and going into your Task Manager. Find wgserver.exe, Right click on that and go into Set Priority. Select Above Normal, or even High. If your computer that has the server is strictly a BBS computer, set it to High. You will however probably have to do this every time worldgroup goes through a cleanup or whatever, though. If anyone knows of a way to make this permanent, please let me know. (or everyone, you know...)

Sorry, yeah I was meaning nodes, brain thinking faster than hands were typing :-p

I know there is a way. I do not know the way. But yes, if you have it set to 56 nodes, that will allow an outside maximum of 56 users to dial in as opposed to the full 256 possible if settings allowed.
Panterra was telling me there's a way to set worldgroup to have a higher processor priority in a manditory fasion so you don't have to manually move it up each time, but he did not elaborate or I would pass this informatoin along. (this is assuming your processor not being able to keep up with activity at it's current setting, not making up for outgoing internet bandwidth limitations).

as it's been a very long time since I have run a board. Last BBS I ran was when WG was called MajorBBS.
But I haven't done any work on it in a few days as I haven't had time. Working nights has some major draw backs. And it's 10:30 pm PST, and I have to get ready for work.
For the question that might get asked, yes I will be a playing Sysop, will I cheat on my chars, Hell no. I am honest & fair, will I sit in the top 10, probably for the first couple of weeks, will I sit there indefinately probably not, depends on how many people i get on my system. My chars will have all the same eq & rights as everyone else except for full sys commands. Will I be live (at the keys), yes most of the time.
Game-ops will be determined when I actually the board up.
Most of all I want to thank everyone that has given me advice and their wisdom on getting things together, You guys rock :D
