Among the new features:
- World Editor can now be used to edit/add Classes ( screenshot (http://dmud.doormud.com/docs/class99.jpg)) and Races (screenshot (http://dmud.doormud.com/docs/world99.jpg))
- Monsters finally rest in real-time while you're not in their room
- Add a "log" command to see older log entries... type "log MM/DD/YY" to get a log from that day. Useful for seeing when bosses were last killed, quests completed, etc.
- Several small bugs fixed
- Much better performance in the 32-bit versions... now shows up as < 3% CPU usage on most systems.
Other interesting news:
There's a neat lil freeware program out there called GameSrv (http://www.mannsoft.ca/gamesrv.php) by Mannsoft which is basically a self-contained telnet door server. The author finally added Rlogin support this month, which means it would make a good door server for WorldGroup. If you're looking for something smaller than Synchronet (or were intimidated by Sync's size), definitely give GameSrv a look.
The author plans on redesigning GameSrv's GUI in soon, so the rlogin config stuff isn't in the GUI config yet... you apparently need to edit an INI file to specify which rlogin hosts to allow. Still somewhat simple to set up though, and fully covered in the docs I think. In any case maybe I'll write an FAQ on it next month.
As for avoiding the horrid WG Rlogin bug that requires you to put a door server on a separate computer -- I'm still looking for ways around this. Someone on here mentioned a while back that if you have a second NIC then you can do it w/ one computer. That got me wondering, perhaps you can do it w/ one computer if you have a router or some other way to forward IPs... maybe make WorldGroup think the rlogin connection is coming from a different IP, or maybe it has to be a different MAC address (which can also be spoofed w/ a router). If anyone gives this a shot and has some success, please let me know!
