Man I've gotten 2,000+ songs off Kazaa and I've never had a problem. And if I have a problem, my comp hasn't crashed yet, so who gives a shit. BitTorrent is great, but I've noticed something you didn't mention. 80% of those fucking bittorrent sites make my Ad-Aware SE as excited as Michael Jackson in an elementary school,



Your cruisin the wrong torrent sites then, Like Kazaa, and iMesh, and other P2P there are good and bad. The shitheads that host with popups, and voting and bullshit like that, dont have quality torrents. Check out http://SuprNova.org, or http://earthreactor.com/bitnews.html those are probably 2 of the best.



Personally I dont give a rats ass about music, I was a DJ for 4 years, I have all the music I'll ever listen to, I have no idea how many records, tapes, and CD's I have, except for 4 milk crates of records, 2 of tapes, and 2 of cd's.



I'm always after software, and movies, and the shit you get off Kazaa is utter garbage 99% of the time, shitty cams. and garbage software, or it aint what the name says it is.

Oh yea dude I only use torrent sites like easywarez.com, torrentreactor, and torrent.youceff.com for software and movies. But this post is about music, and I get music off kazaa, because more people upload to kazaa and there's a wider variety and greater selection of music, all in one place.



And I don't know man, even if I had as much music as you, I'd still want more. I LOVE music.

Actually this thread is about the RIAA, which in part has to do with music, but pertains to all P2P, because if the RIAA gets it's way then all P2P will end and not only will we have to go back to buying music, but appz & movies will have to be obtained by creative measures again.

Yea, but the RIAA isn't stopping people from downloading software, and they're not suing people who have... Doom 3 already. They're getting people who are sharing music. The Recording Industry only cares about records... until they stick their noses into other entertainment/mass media outlets, then RIAA only cares about music. P2P won't end, if they really had such a strong case they probably could have shut down the networks a long time ago, not just sued random 10 year olds who were caught downloading and sharing Bert and Ernie Sing the Blues. I've got my own way to fight them. I DONT SHARE MUSIC. I have more songs than I know what to do with, but I don't share a single one. So according to that network, I don't exist. There are higher profile people out there that they want to nab, then go to work exploring my hard drive to find my music, which is a COMPLETE waste of time because I keep it all on a firewire HD that I hook up only when downloading something. And anyway like I said about software, I always buy the stuff if I like it.



I saw Iron Maiden a few years ago in San Antonio and Bruce Dickinson went off on a rant about how they felt downloading music was the biggest compliment to a band, because it means people want to hear them. Or like Velvet Revolvers new cd, which comes with sharing licenses and a program to legally share songs with friends, as many times as you'd like. The most effective battle against the RIAA will come from the artists, which won't happen unless they're cool like most rock bands. Metallica can eat the corn out of my crap. They need to jump into a time machine and go back to when they had balls and the fans' respect.



Another way I cut costs is by buying the cd's, coming home and making a copy of them, and then selling them to a local used CD outlet who will pay top $$ for newer stuff. That way I paid for the license, and the local place pays in cash with no paper trail to prove I sold it back.

Here in Canada the RIAA has imposed a tax on ALL recordable media, in which the funds are suppose to go to the artists, regardless of what your using the media for. We pay upwards of an extra 75c p/disk, (Memorex Black 80 Min. 700MB 48x CD-R - 50 Pack $49.99cdn) now on top of the 49.99, I'll pay an extra .75c p/disk, plus 14.5% in tax. And that is just on CD-R's. the take by the RIAA is a hell of alot higher for DVD-R's (I think it's like 1.50 p/disk), and they also collect on all flash media, and even blank cassette tapes. Basically any and all types of recordable media.



Now in the last 5 years that this has been going on, not a fucking dime has made it to the artists.



So tell me, why should I give a rats ass what the RIAA says or does. I'll download rather than buy, because I'm paying thru the fucking nose anyway.



And when I do go to the theaters, for a single adult to watch a mainstream movie, it costs $10.95 not including refreshments/Popcorn.

Yea I've heard about that levy bullshit. What a crock of shit. Suppose you don't burn, just back up your system, why should you pay a tax for that.



It now becomes a question of ethics. Do the ends justify the means, and does THEIR greed and advantage-taking of the customers make it okay to steal, or is stealing wrong no matter what? Purely personal preference.



And movie prices are ridiculous, I only go to the movies at the first showing, they have an Early Bird Special at Cinemark Theaters where you get in for $4. Other than that, my girlfriend's parents own a local video rental chain so we get movies for free. But like I said, other than that I won't go. Even when it was $8, it's still fucking ridiculous for a movie which probably sucks; the quality of movies has gone down and the length of movies has gone up.

I have 5 cd-rw's that I use for music, and I'm constantly changing my tunes. that all I ever burn music to, and it's shit I have paid for anyway, usualy from records, tapes and other cd's.



I dont go to the movies often.

The last movie I saw was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind... and it was definitely worth the $10 they charge here.

this summer I've seen in theater, Spiderman 2, Shrek 2, fahrenheit 911, Harry Pot-head (by mistake). So I dont not see movies, I just think that $10.95 plus tax is a bit much. Here in Canada they have eliminated matinee prices, and cheap tuesdays. Which sucks.
