Yeah im all about thifing, Heres one. Back in the 80's did you have tapes of your favorite artists. Were some of these tapes copied by one of your friends. The only thing that makes Mp3 downloading illeagle now is the mass at which the pirating is done. Heres a way to fight it and fuck the cost if your not willing to go to extreams to solve problems then the problem isnt bad enough, Instead of making it illeagle to download mp3's make it illeagle to produce and distribute portable mp3 players.

May sound stuipid and yes i know you can formate mp3 to cd format but like ray said he has over 15000 songs thats at least 1000 cd's and a whole lot of burning. Point being, i know i like listing to music alot of places besides right next to my computers and i know i own alot of cds ALOT and most of these cd's were purchased after i downloaded a few songs by the artist,

SO yada yada if its illeagle stop it simple as that but you see its not because its all about feeding the fat and now The RIAA see's a way to squeez this market as well and soon youll be paying for half rate quality and shit selection.

So you can preach all the legalities to me you want and say that im taking money away from artists heres what i say. If your a big artist you have too much money anyway and if your not then you need all the free advertisment you can get.

I would like to see the precentage of downloaders that actually make a dent on record sales, Heres a thought mabey sales slumps are due to shit product and a loss of connection with actuall music over over produced pretty faces.

i must be far too shallow to figure out where your "damn it could be useful" fits into anything discussed on this thread.

Glad someone else actually has noticed what's going on here.

It's not about stopping illegal things, at all. If it was, they would have alot more press about it. It would be more obvious, they would have a face for it. Someone would be known for it personally. But, no. It's all the RIAA. (how many of you know what that stands for, anyway?) Listen to the words of this government started, government controleld, probably getting skimmed by the government organization.

Recording Industry Association of America. These people are involved in ENTERTAINMENT. Are you entertained by cold, frigid, heartless things? void of feeling? hmm.. if you're an empty-v fan, probably.. but the rest of us with brains, probably not.

Fuck it. Really. Nevermind. Let them get that 1% growth in sales. That's all they are after.

theft isn't the answer, you're arguing a point that means noone has the right to make a profit. If someone somewhere deems it justified then it therefore is. I don't buy that logic. The fact that they're greedy doesn't mean that theft is ok, that's my argument. The ends don't justify the means because you hurt others in the businesses that aren't greedy, they're just trying to put food in their wives and kids mouths and just getting by every week. I know you see my point Shroud, you are pretty smart by the looks of your dialogue here.

Well, we're agreed theft is wrong. I've stated probably twice (too lazy to re-read) that i have no problem with stealing fromg reedy people.. but i also think i've made it clear i disagree with their business practice, and figure fuck.. eye for an eye is only too fair.. :)

and Nobody ever said nobody has a right to make a profit. At all.

You don't think a 300% profit is blatant greed?

That's really all I can think to say, reckless..

Actually..

Just trying to put food on their table... Right.. their $200,000 imported from france marble table..... Sure...

I understand for the majority of the people paid by these record sales it's not the point, but this lobbying against piracy isn't going to make any dent at all for those people.

having studied this subject enough is the only reason i feel this comfortable making these bold statements.. you wont see me talking much about politics or science or anything i haven't studied on..

The music industry doesn't just want the 300% from cd's, they're also getting it from flash memory cards, removable hard-drives, anything that isn't fixed media.

I own ONE cd-rw that I have made a mix cd from all the bought & paid for cd's I own.

my CDR's are for backup purpose only, yeah I own my share of pi8 software, hell these days who doesn't own at least one questionable program. BUT 300% increase that is utter bullshit

BLANK MEDIA LEVY

In 2000 a levy was introduced on blank media in Canada to compensate music artists for lost royalties due to the copying of music by individuals. The levy is paid by the Manufacturers and Importers of Blank media in Canada to the CPCC (Canadian Private Copying Collective). The CPCC then distributes the monies collected (minus administration fees) to registered artists. The Copyright Board sets the rates, but does not collect them. They issued a FAQ in 1999 about the Levy.

The CPCC has proposed substantially higher rates for the levy in 2003 and asked it be applied to a larger range of media (see chart below)

LATEST NEWS

Jan 23, 2003: The CPCC set to pay levy to musicians soon

Jan 21, 2003: The Copyright Board Hearings have started. These hearing are used to argue for rates of levy to the Copyright Board. The Board will make their decision likely in March 2003

Dec 2002: Copyright Board extends existing rates into 2003 because of delay into setting new rates. ie. new rates will not come into effect Jan.1, 2003.

Dec 2002: Canadian Coalition for Fair Digital Access, a group of manufacturers launches new offensive against the levy.

April 2002: **FAQ by Graeme Bennett**

March 8: The Proposed Rates for 2003/2004 are posted.

Guess that's putting a table under their food huh?

The point is this, if you go "back in the day" when the recording artists did something where you bought a tape with oh, I dunno 90% good songs, and you can miss that crappy one. But now, they charge damn near 20 bux for a new cd, and you like only one or 2 songs b/c either you like the less mainstream stuff that doesn't get played, or you like the mainstream stuff which there is 1 or 2 of on the cd. Then you have the recording artists that for the most part (not that I didn't say all) they already have a ton of cash to get on the radio or have a cd out there that isn't already promo or free. I'm not saying that I don't buy cds, because I do, the problem is that when you don't like the mainstream garbage that gets crammed down your throat, you get to pay an outrageous price for cds, or suffer with crap.

Not that anyone cares, but a good example is:

CD: Gravity Zero

Artist: Two-Mix

Date Made: October 11, 2001

Price: 46.49 USD (before shipping)

There's a cd, imho that has a bunch of good songs, now you can get the mainstream stuff for 16-18 bux a cd, but that's still overpriced. The sad thing is that music sales have RISEN since the mp3s have become in mass availibility.

And whoever it was made a good point that usually artists make their money from tours and shows, (not to mention T-shirts and the other random crap bands sell now) not the actual cd sales.

Oh and at this point, ppl have a chance to 'try before they buy' music, kinda like renting it but at a lower cost. That, and most people don't want to buy a cd that they haven't heard anything form before. I mean if a random new cd came out from a band you only kinda liked, and you heard nothing off of it, would you rush out and buy it? No, you would want to be sure you're getting something you want, especially since a lot of places I have ran across only will return/swap out cds if they're defective.

Of course you could always sell it to a 2nd hand cd place, and lose 11 bux in the process, all b/c a band decided to put out a shitty cd, since they thought you may want to buy it on name alone.

Oh, and if you don't like the sig, then what are you even doing here? Think hard on that one as well.

Actually. I believe you're right. I think it was a little closer to 250%. I'm going on interscope figures. The profit they make after they pay whoever it is, what is banked when they sell from factory to outlets. I've met alot of people and learned alot about the industry... I would rather have the mindset when I was buying shit left and right just complaining, but that's not the case.. I'm not saying I'm not thankful though I suppose.. Seeing as the same connection I got all of this information from is the same connection that gave me various official interscope soundbank CDs.. One loop actually was chopped up and used in one of my songs off of the first cd i did...

But.... Oh well... Not like they're going to give this information out to the general public openly without a huge fight, right?

THEY'RE THE VICTIMS!!!! THEY ARE, THE VICTIMS!!!
