Anyone Have a GeForce FX5900? How Good compared to Ati 9800? [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Im going to be buying a new video card, but im not sure which I want. From my personal experience, ive had problems with 4 ATI cards, and only 1 problem with an Nvidia. Is this FX5900 any good? I hear it uses 3dfx shit?

i always see computer reviews and stuff praising the hell out of it but it's got like a $500 price tag. i haven't searched to see how low you can get it for, but that's a lot. i paid $230 for my GeForce4 Ti 4400 back when they were new and thought even that was a lot.

I thought I saw the 9800 for 399 at best buy yesterday, but I could be mistaken, $400 is still too damn much anyway, video cards need to come down in price for shits sake.

The NEWER 5900's benchmark a tad higher than the 9800's. Nvidia had some false benchmarks out for it's FX line previously.

Yeah nVidia had 'optimized' the old drivers for some benchmarking programs, giving it an edge in the testing, but then, so had ATi. They've both removed that 'feature.' Anyway, the 9800 seems to run a tad faster but its still buggier than nVidia. Want to look at the results?

I personally would hold off on buying either card until after christmas. the only real advantage they ahve besides speed is dx9 and openGL2.0 support, and there wont be any games to take advantage of that until christmas at least.

Get a 9600 pro, if you know hopw to you can make it run at 9700 speeds if you buy the right one with the correct PCB.
