Alright, ya know, this is focusing on me, and that's bullshit, because #1, I didn't sign up.. My fucking point, reckless, is that most people don't know better, and go in thinking they can trust whatever the recruiter says, which you and I know they can't. So stop being difficult, you sombitch..

i didn't get the job.. i was promised when i joined the air force, but regardless, the military does make you grow as a person. you learn how to respect authrity if that is alll you learn.. you should also learn how to talk to "important" people with out fear at least i did. and.. i also learned a really big lesson, those so called important people.. are just that.. people.. makes dealing with bosses.. celebs.. anyone "important" a hell of a lot easier ;)

Like I was told when I joined the AirForce, just make 100% sure this is what you want to do.........once you take the oathe there is no waking up in the morning and deciding you want a career change! Your stuck until its time to reinlist! Unless you do like I did and get in about 10 fights and get a few drunk and disordelys and then they will let ya out early ;)

I was in the navy for 3 years. I didnt mind it at all, you are not out to sea for 3-6 months every time. It can be as little as 3 days or at most 6 months. Depending on what job you choose is how exciting it is. I was an engineer, I operated boilers, water pumps, and engines the size of your bedroom. I went to Spain, Malta, Italy, Greece, Turkey and I got more than 1 day in each port. Don't let them fill your head with bullshit. They don't screw you on your paycheck, you get paid on the 1st and the 15th of every month. Not every week or 2 weeks like civilians. That is why people think they screw ya. As a matter of fact, I am re-enlisting and will be shipping out again in a month or 2. I didn't say you dont get paid, But the government has a tendancy of having discrepencies in their pay rates, and mix ups constantly. How long does it take to fix it? Well if you owe the government money you can bet your ass it's gone from your account almost as soon as they notice, but if they owe you they take their sweet ass time. Anyways, noone really cares anymore because i'm pretty sure he left already heh. Not everyone has problems, but a lot of people do. I personally would never join. I have had enough experience with navy and army that there is no way in hell i wouldgive up 3 years or more of my life to be treated like shit, and forced to do worthless shit. For instance, sol;iders in the army get the lovely chore of landscaping. Who the fuck signs up for the army to mow fucking lawns all day. I bet when they all signed up they were sitting around going "damn, I really wanna be a landscaper when i get out of the army. I hope to god i get some experience in that while I'm in." hehe. So anyways, basically you don't know what you got yourself into until you're there. Some people dont mind because they have no direction in life, and some people don't feel like being treated like they are still living with their parents.

No I haven't left yet.. just been busy as hell getting ready and shit.. but you know wut, I have herd too many positives and they just outweigh the negatives. Hell the Navy is like any other job right, you will like some or alot of things and of course there will always be things you don't like. Thats just one of the facts about life.. it just SUCKS

Ok, I joined this forum for the sole purpose of replying to this post. This guy is what is commonly in the navy referred to as a 'Lifer'. This term will have no real meaning to you unless you do decide to enlist. I dont even know where to begin in telling the truth about the Navy. I enlisted over 3 years ago, and I have changed a great deal in that time. I originally believed the big lie that is the image of the modern military. I wanted to join an organization that was dedicated to noble causes and strictly believed in values such as honor and courage. I originally wanted to be an officer in the Air Force. I was in ROTC at GA tech for a year, but I found that I couldnt get serious about dedicating myself to the organization. It was all about image and personal gain and it just seemed very phony to me. So disgusted, thinking that the problem was with the ROTC program, I decided to skip all the officer bullshit and enlist in the branch of service that I forsaw the least amount of politics to be involved, the United States Marine Corps. My parents ended up talking me into joining the Navy instead(shameful thing to admit I know, but they Had paid for my college for a year and I couldnt help but feel obligated). Long story short, I am now about to leave my first real duty station after school and boot camp, and I have become completely disgusted with the military. They preach their supposed honor code, yet there are a very large number of service members that will trample all over it to get ahead. And sadly, these are the people that Do get ahead, so you can expect to be working for one most of the time. The Navy's real core values are not Honor, Courage, and Commitment. That is just a shield that the bastards hide behind and use to project the Image of integrity. THAT is the Navys true core value, Image Before Substance. You can be the biggest asshole in the world with no personal value system of any kind and Succeed as long as you look good doing it. Theres another word for this, its called political. I dont like politics, I only wanted to help defend my country in a pure and honest organization. So my advice to you is this. If you do not value such things as logic, justice, integrity, and you dont mind blindly obeying rules that are quite often as stupid as they are unfair(or at least maintain the image that you are obeying), then the Navy is for you, and you will succeed(congrats, you have just become a Lifer). If, however, you are looking for honor, the truth is that its a rare commodity these days and looking for it in the military is going to leave you disillusioned and extremely unhappy.

This is only one reason not to join the Navy, but for me, it is the biggest. I urge you to research further before you make a commitment. Oh, and my contact info is BULL068@hotmail.com in case anyone wants to reply to this. I will probably never check this message board again.
