Re: 98 to NT upgrade [Archive] - ForumsHQ
it'll be fine if you have wg installed now you'll probably have to reinstall it after upgrade
Re: 98 to NT upgrade [Archive] - ForumsHQ
ugh don't do that... just format drive and do a clean install with win2k. then just burn the files you need for the bbs (or the wcc*.* ones for majormud) and walaa, you have everything you need

Well...you can upgrade windows 98 to windows 2000...but I always like to just format, then do a clean install.
Re: 98 to NT upgrade [Archive] - ForumsHQ
its not a good idea to upgrade. they use different file systems and converting it will give you problems down the road... or so i've heard anyway
Re: 98 to NT upgrade [Archive] - ForumsHQ
aragons right, a fresh install is the best solution.
Re: 98 to NT upgrade [Archive] - ForumsHQ
they don't necessarily use different file systems, you can use windows 2000 with fat32, but it's best to use ntfs, that way files are more manageable and less shareable
Re: 98 to NT upgrade [Archive] - ForumsHQ
You have two choices with upgrading to win2k.
Either use FAT32 or you can use NTFS which is what windows NT mainly uses. If you use NTFS you cant use any files on a FAT32 partition and vice versa.
Ive never had a problem upgrading to win2k from 98 but I generally format the drive so I clean up alot of misc bullshit in the registry.

you can do a conversion from fat32 to ntfs or the other way, but it's buggy and i've never seen anyone have it work... it always screws somethin up
