Under Combat in Settings, how is the alternate weapon used? Is that in case you lose the normal weapon? or is it in case your normal weapon doesn't inflict / work against the monster you are fighting?

I think it is if the current weapon has no effect.

or if you can't equip the current weapon, like your alignment isn't correct
