Baud vs Bytes
This is a short document tutorial.
8 bits = 1 byte
1000 bits = 1 kilobit
kilobaud = kilobits per second
Kilobits per second/8 = kilobytes per second
1000 * kilobytes per second = Megabytes per second
1000 * kilobits per second = Megabits per second
MB=MegaBytes
Mb=Megabits
KB or kB=KiloBytes
Kb or kb=Kilobits
Line speed for DSL or cable is measured in Kbps = Kilobits per second.... as in 512Kbps DSL service.
Download speed is measured in KBps = Kilobytes per second.... as in I am downloading linux at 52KBps.
So the Maximum Download Speed(MDS laf) for a 512Kilobits per second DSL connection is 64 KBps. You wont always( or ever) get your maximum speed.... my 512k connection runs about 50KBps...
