we aren't arguing about your advice. degree + certs is definately the way to go to get your feet wet if you dont have experience. we were just arguing that $15/hr to EXPECT to start at I don't think is a good figure. $10/hr with no experience is about right IMO. i personally don't think college is worth it IF you can get that first job to start gaining experience. then get your certs while you work full time (experience + certs is better than degree + certs IMO).



i got lucky and only had to go to college for a semester until i found a good paying job (they recognized my skillz and picked me right up ;)). the only cert i have is a CNA (certified novell administrator) and who the hell uses novell anymore.

I only have one cert, and I ahve been to 2 diff colleges for almost 2 years apiece. I now have a job based on experience only (and that experience I got from just the experience of going to the first college hehe). I started this job at an antry-level position, but will be moved up within a few months now that they've seen my skillz :)

They were not replying to that post, they were saying that I was full of shit for saying where I live and what I do etc etc. Also I didn't say to expect it, I am saying the business climate changes from region to region.. thus perhaps it would be better to move to get a good paying job.. That is what I did. tho pot prices may be higher down here, so that could play a role in most of your situations.. ponder.

9-10 dollars an hr you guys are shootin low.. you must not live in a tech area. I live near dc and I make 15 an hour with no experience to start, now I have almost 2 years experience, my a+, working on net+ and college. To sum up, move, find a better job.

DC is one of the highest standards of living in the US. I think (not sure) it's just a step behind New York City. A 1 bedroom apartment on average is over a grand. Add $300-500 per bedroom on top of that. That shit is CRAZY. It's $600 for a one bedroom and between $700-800 for a two bedroom around here, in the nicer areas.



If he lives 20+ miles out of DC, he may be able to get a decent deal. He then has to drive into DC every day, which is one hell of a drive through all that traffic every day. That's so not worth it. I'll keep my $10/hr job.

Cause my father has been active in politics for about 23 years.

Hes got alot of congressmen whos assistants (fresh out of college etc) make 15-20 an hr but the cost of living is fing high that they all rent the same flat to save cost
