Yeah, its a modifier to character exp charts.. and nah, it's not lame, its kind of necessary. If you have 60 fights a day on standard exp tables, you'll have killed every monster in the game in only 3 weeks or so... you just end up leveling too fast... hence the existence of the exp-table-raising option.
