First thing I want to say is I really don't care about Metro. I don't like them; I don't hate them. As far as I'm concerned, they can do whatever they want to do with Majormud - it's their business.
I've never agreed with their policy of disallowing the editing of Majormud. That is the reason for MMB.
MMB has always been the place to get information on editing Majormud. Unfortunately, due to Metro's brainwashing, many people seem to think editing Majormud is wrong or illegal. As such, people labeled MMB as a "piracy forum." This notoriety began since day 1 and has never let up. Seeing as how MMB had been given that dubious distinction, I never saw fit to place much emphasis on ensuring the censorship of questionable material.
Metro has never supported MMB and in my opinion, I believe that was a big mistake. Metro had no interest in me, and therefore I had no interest in helping them fight Majormud piracy. I've tried complying in the beginning. I supplied Shannon with the IP addresses of a notorious individual associated with Majormud piracy as well as removed links to bbs's running pirated software. Thankless, Metro still did not want to bargain with their editing policy.
The problem is that those who edit lose their license, so what incentive do they have to purchase a license? Why should they buy a sub-par quality product only to be harassed because of statements they make? Why should they buy a product that they cannot customize? Being able to change the name for "runic" is not very exciting after the first 3 seconds.
What are users supposed to do? Spend hundreds of dollars to get software only to get the license revoked the moment they appear to engage in questionable acts?
Basically, MMB is not illegal. Editing Majormud is not illegal. It's not my job to police all of the bbs's and shut out those who run pirated software. Shannon/Metro - I know you are reading this - as far as MMB being a "piracy forum", sorry. Don't blame your lack of ability to control piracy on us. We discuss information on activities that voids your license agreement - nothing illegal with that, is there? Then again, it seems your notion of legality rests upon using hearsay as proof. Figure out how to make your program better and listen to your users instead of harassing and threatening MMB members and you might get somewhere. Instead of investing the time in preventing the editing of Majormud and employing inadequate piracy measures, analyze what makes people want to do such things. It will be more beneficial to everyone in the long run. Most of us have a conscience and know the difference between right and wrong. Most of us would rather do things the right way. I know I would.
I gladly paid $160 for the vBulletin license to run this site with. The quality product I received justified spending that amount.

You can try to hide pirated software as much as you want..but when it's software like this, don't bother. You can make your system validate, ban all they're IP's..they can get anyone to sign up, someone you would validate, and check.
So...why are we so discluded? Well, iNViSiGOD is also 100% correct. We offer MUCH better support here. MudCentral forum people may know more about playing the game, but we as a whole know more about the game's actual makeup. The only reason nothing has been done as drastic as what they've done is simply because - they have the code, we don't.
Metro knows we're here..don't fear them or hide from them. This is proof they keep an eye on us, and read all of your new BBS threads. They can easily get on those, sys, check, and bam. Like I said - we're around because they allow it.
