when you upload to people, what does it max out at? almost every cable company has a cap on the upstream. it is usually around 10-20k, mines like 13k.

you should find out (just upload a big file to someone's ftp) because when I had a board running I could only get about 15 ppl on before it started lagging. not really worth it unless it's private for a small group of friends (like mine was).

*edit*

if you do test it by uploading, let it go for a bit before you assume your speed. you'll usually get a burst speed rating of a little higher than your cap and then it will dwindle down (I usually get about 20k/sec for a few seconds)

mine ranges between 27 and 33kb/sec

i wish i could uncap it, i've seen some sweet uncapped cable modems... unfortunately it's illegal and so easy for the company to tell if you have uncapped it

My average uploads are 70k. I've gotten 120k upstream before. I'm on a normal capped cable.

bandwidth tests done via the upload stuff to people is a little slighted. If you're on the same network (ISP) you'll obviously get much higher results. I can transfer to local RR people at ungodly speeds, but when I transfer to others it's not nearly as high. Keep that in mind when testing your bandwidth. As for it being higher than 20k, you'll see that you're either doing it at low load times on your network or your network isn't very congested. Cable is the worst medium (next to dial up modems) to host servers on because of the shared bandwidth.

No offense to Syntax, just clarifying :)
