Hey invis.

What do you think about the info I found here.. I think this might be his problem but Im not sure

"Why does my Voodoo 3 video card not work with my Presario 5000, 5100, or 5200 series unit?"

Compaq on 2/15/2001 had this insight:

"The current BIOS was designed to automatically disable the ATI chipset when another display adapter was introduced to the system, unfortunately, some cards do not trigger this function.

Resolution

If this issue arrises, a ROM update has been posted to resolve it. Click on the link below to download the ROMPaq. Please read the accompanying text file for instructions on how to install the ROM upgrade:

http://web14.compaq.com/falco/sp_syn. asp?recid=SP12234.

NOTE: Please do not attempt installing the ROMPaq unless you are having the issue described above. Updating the ROM BIOS on any PC should only be done to address specific issues."

"I had the same problem. Found that after installing the new card:

1. Hook your monitor up to the OLD onboard video.

2. Reboot the pc and go into the BIOS settings.

3. In the Advanced (I think) menu selection, pick PCI Device Settings (I think this is the right selection. I don't have the pc in front of me and I'm doing this from memory).

4. There is a selection to choose between your onboard video card or the new one you just installed. This selection is not there until after you install the new video card and go into bios.

5. Hook up your monitor to the new card and pray it works."
