Lag. [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by Sean »

Alright, I posted a thread earlier about this, but here's some more information.

I just tested my downstream at 1098kbps ..

My upstream is 385kbps (without AIM or windows messenger runnings)

Also, this was done at a test site in california .. and Im from Michigan.

Some of my test users are reporting some lag that I'd like to get rid of .. just wondering are there any secrets or tricks to reduce lag out there? ;)

Are your test users from the same place? If they aren't, have them do a tracert to your site. It doesn't look like you should be having any problems with your bandwidth. If they do a tracert, they should find the problem. Maybe they are all hopping to one certain place and it's lagging them.

how many users do you have have regularly?

385 kBITS/sec is only equal to 48 kBYTES per second. divide that by 30 users and each one only gets 1.6k/sec. when I used to run a board on a cable modem with 16kbytes upstream, I could only get about 10-15 users on before there was lag.
