Post by Kryax »

Ok, so i get bored and decide to start buildling a thief (yes i'm that bored). Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to build one besides rerolling it. Items etc. etc. Right now he's lvl 10 nekojin thief. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Well, seeing as you said don't say reroll it, I'm going to have to say... REROLL IT. The point of a thief is the low exp chart. A neko thief is beyond ridiculous. You've got 130% exp. Reroll it, and if you want to make a thief, make it a half-orc. Neko gives you virtually nothing over a half-orc. No racial stealth is backed up by the stealth quest. You already have tracking. Who gives a crap about the resistances. The only thing that is good is the night vision, but pick up a torch. Seriously, reroll it into a half-orc if you want to make a thief. You have to take advantage of the only advantage a thief has, a low exp chart.

go halfling thief if ur gonna play anything. As for a thief though your gonna get to like level 30 and realize that after a backstab a monster is gonna tear you a asshole bigger then that pic that dxpacc shared to us all. Thats where thieves fall and unfortunatly majormud doesnt help thieves after that

That's why you get 0% exp. Thieves are one of the few classes where you cannot base scripting spot on level, you have to give them a handicap. A lvl 30 thief will be scripting a spot that a lvl 20 ranger would be scripting, and probably having more troubles. The reason for this is simple. A lvl 20 ranger would only pull 100k out of the area (generic). A lvl 30 thief would only pull 100k out of the area (generic). The point is that the thief is going to suck whether you make it a halfling, halforc, gnome, darkelf, nekojin, etc... You want to take advantage of the 0% exp so that you can be lvl 30 by the time the ranger gets lvl 20. Thieves almost match other classes in their own special way that nobody ever really pays attention to. A thief is never going to out-do any other class, period. A thief is supposed to raise levels quicker so that they have a chance. If you are going to make a thief, make it halforc. Humans are gay, halforcs are better. If you don't make a 0% race on a thief, it'd be the same thing as making a halfogre mystic. You don't get kai powers, which is one of mystics strong points. The only thief strong point is the 0% exp. Take advantage.

I've asked all over, but thieves are such a shitty class no one really knows about them. What exactly can thieves "steal" . I know they can steal gold, but can they steal items, and if so, where from ? shops? other people? I'd like to know, something else to fuck around with....hehehe

Thieves are a fun class, you type "rob {user}" and majormud will attempt to grab an item, you gain a few ep's and also stand a risk of being caught, depending on the victims perception. or something. Also speed is right you not just want but NEED to play a 0% class for a thief, it's the whole entire point, 10-15% is do-able but seems to make no sense. Speed is right Half-Orc that sunofabitch right now!!!

You can rob {user} and get items, you can rob {user} of gold, and get money, or you can rob {user} of {item} and get a specific item. You can only steal what they don't have equipped, its best if you know they have an item so you don't go wasting EPs. I loved stealing skiffs back in the day before the river bashing you against rocks. They'd be out in the middle of the river and not be able to move, that shit was fun.
