I've only seen one other thread pointing this out, and it wasn't directed at me, so no, "we" haven't been over this. Sorry, I didn't pay any attention to it, don't really pay any attention to your comments. Thanks for pointing this out though. My FTP server said what the IP was, so I copied and pasted.

Good, now I can change this into a Help me topic. I've got two computers on a router, I go to whatismyip.com, and it gives me my IP. I can't connect to me through that IP. What do I have to do to get it to recognize this computer through that IP? Switch the connections around?

you´d probably just have to use port redirection



for example, if someone connects to your main ip via port 21, you have to choose to have that redirect to a spec. computer.

If your using a router, then have the router send all the traffic on port 21 to 192.168.1.101 or whatever, but then what you need to do, is right click on the connection, and edit properties to set the IP for that machiine to 192.168.1.101.



So the FTP machine has a set IP of 192.168.1.101

The Router forwards all incomming traffic on port 21 to computer 192.168.1.101 on port 21.

nods, what kidn of router are u using? or have you no access to the router? i just setup 1 comp through my router yesterday for an ftp, one for the bbs, and one for a webpage. :D that was a dlink 704p router tho... only 4 port

I'm using a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router. It is only set up to split my cable connection, the computers cannot access eachother. I know virtually nothing about networking, I'm a programmer, most of us are network illiterate. I'm unsure as to how to do what either of you told me to do. I looked on both of the computer settings and found a few things that looked like they would help, changed around some settings, and just totally lost my internet connection. Shrug. I got it back tho.

make sure your local inet is set to "trusted zone" in zonealarm(i'm assuming you have zonealarm) and set your trusted zone to low security, your pcs should show up if not go into your system properties in network setting and make sure they're both in the same workgroup.
