Buying motherboard and cpu tonight [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by Dark »

Anyone got a suggestion on what kind of CPU/motherboard to buy?

I can go up to $500 for both if need be but id rather not.

Going Pricewatch way, I find I can get a decent Intel P4 2.0 gig with mother for alittle more than $240..

Shit, Anything is better than my PIII 733 cpu and a mb that can only be upgraded to a 1gig hehe

Check this place out... they are local to me so I don't have to worry about shipping but they do ship... and they have some pretty damn good system prices.. http://www.ginstar.com

Click Online Ordering at the top then use the pulldown on the next page to choose 'Systems' :)

Recommendation: Athlon XP 1600+ Abit KR7A Mobo (KT266a) and a stick of 256megs Corsair PC2100.

get the epox k3a motherboard (best for socket a) and amd athlon xp 2200+ if you're an athlon fan. or if you want something better, go for pentium 4 2.53 ghz :D. that's the best processor on the market now methinks, until they release the 2.8 in a couple months. however you're lookin at double the price that way.

yeah but even so, the 2.53 and the 2.4 both whoop the 2200+ which amd JUST released. and the 2.8 will be out in september. amd is lagging, and ya can't be behind 'em forever. if they get a 2800+ by the time intel gets that 2.8, i'll be happy, but if not, the more expensive intel performs much better.

I'm not too concerned about AMD lagging at the moment considering they were staying a bit ahead of Intel for the last few years prior.

I'd hope Intel could make a 2.53 ghz process faster than an AMD 1.8...lol My experience has shown AMD's out processing even higher speed Intel cpu's.
