Second cleanup?

Post by syntax53 »

how do you configure WG/Mud to do a second (or third, etc) cleanup? I see with the auto-time events you can bring the board down to do whatever via a batch file, but it doesn't actually run a cleanup. how would i go about that?

thanks.

All ya gotta do is create a batch file, and then where it ask's for the batch file put in the file name and wala.. All ya gotta do in the batch file is put the wccmmud or whatever gay ass file it is that runs the clean-up for you.

What I'm trying to figure out is why you would want to perform more than one 'cleanup' in a day. If you want to add actions to the cleanup (like making backups of files) then you can just make a batch file named wgsclean.bat and put whatever comamnds you want run in it. As far as I know the only way to run the actual BBS cleanup is either via the timed event for it or manually.

I was under the impression that lots of people ran 2 or more cleanups per day to keep keep regeneration up, and for various other reasons.

Not really sure about the regen, doesn't seem like that would make a difference...but maybe it does. As far as various other reasons I'm still at a loss as to what they would be.

The only reason you need to run another clean-up (unless you have other games) would be due to the regen problems. BBS's have been known to lose regen and the only way to fix that is to run a clean-up so some SysOps do it 2-3 times a day (which gets really annoying but you have lots o monsters) Another thing...... it will help clear up lag once in a while.

One of the major contributors to lag is it writing to that damned wccmmud.log file or wtf it is. Mines like 600 megs in size so far.

the game can survive without that wccmmud.log right? just wondering cuz it does take 95%of my backup time when im lazy and just backup the whole directory. maybe set it to delete the friggin file at cleanup every night. i dunno what its really used for tho, so just thought i'd check.
