Setting up your edits in help command [Archive] - ForumsHQ

i havnt posted anything werth a damn, so i set out to find SOMETHING.. I found it way simple to add things into the text block for the 'Help' command in mud. (and found the PURGE command while doing so!!) (i don't use LJN but i wouldn't be suprized if it could do it)



neways, go open wccmmhlp.msg in a text editor (no werd wrap plz)



Read the top! Scroll around and look.



Thats about all i need to write on this...



NoTE: after you cut and paste something. you could always finish up the editing of the block using WorldGroup TextBlocks, then u could use wgsdraw 4 AnSi...



nNoTE: You will see "S ## Help Topic String" show up as "Maximum Length: ## chars" in WorldGroup TextBlocks. Shrug, don't ask...

This has to be the EASIEST thing to edit...found it about a year or two ago...just never bothered to tell anyone cuz it was so easy...plus nobody is 'l33t' enuf to edit the help files heh....DGBBS had helpfiles for each new class and race...just cuz i got tired of ppl asking me for info on them, and most of them were too supid to exit mud and read the file i posted to list all the edits i made... http://mmb.forumshq.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dozingoff.gif



Good idea on posting this tho, not too many ppl knew this, I think...



Also...if you edit the wcctext.msg file (i think thats teh file name) you can edit the main mud menu down at the bottom of the file.

Interesting info... I've already started playing with the text file, but for the help file, without checking it out too much, what is to be done as far as say having "HELP SAMURAI" to bring up the decription for it, shit.. im confusing myself. I mean where would someone put that and how would it be done to let it know to bring up the Samurai Help Screen... he help text file has instructions in the first few paragraphs on how to edit it.



Theres a series of command keys to type in to specify the beginning of a help topic and then to end the topic. You can also edit the existing topics to include your new info. Basically, what I did was copy the entire topic for a race and paste it to create the topic for my new races...just changed the topic number info and blah blah...theres an extra race topic http://mmb.forumshq.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile2.gif

Thanks, I read this waaaaay too late, didn't find it in the search so I made a new thread asking a stupid question ;) Good info though, I was thinking it was in one of the .dats :)

Im refering to, what file is this saved in? I used worldgroup editor to save mine into and I want to back that file up, which file is it? The file you stated above does nto wrok for me.

I can't recall without looking at the files, but I do know it is a .msg file (it will likely have an outlook email icon).
