--I also posted this thread in the Nightmare forum, before I saw the Majormud/Worldgroup forum......
I'm brand new to these forums and I wasn't sure where I should post this thread. I had just reset my game of mud and then downloaded and installed Nightmare for the first time. When I opened up Nightmare (the beta version) the first time my Worldgroup server was up and running and it caused me to get a btreive 20 error (or something like that). I closed Nightmare and restarted Worldgroup and I kept getting the btrieve error. I would also get this btrieve error when I would try to start the MajorMud ultilities. So I ended up deleting Worldgroup, Nightmare, and MajorMUD off of my harddrive and reinstalling everything again. I havern't tried running Nightmare while Worldgroup is running again for fear of getting another btrieve error, but now I am getting some much more messed up. I reset my game, made a character and went into the game to find that everything is *ucked. Rooms are whacked, theres money laying everywhere, there was limited items laying on the ground, there was the iceforge anvil in ts, lots of screwed up stuff. I've posted a capture of some of the stuff I'm witnessing at the bottom of this thread. I have deleted and reset my mud game over and over to see if I could get rid of this, but it keeps happening. I'm running v1.11i+patch and I've tried going into the game with just h installed, etc, and I keep finding my realm *ucked. If someone knows what's going on or can help, please do. I'm not sure what is going on, but everything was fine and dandy until I installed Nightmare.
Thanks

have you tried just installing wg then mud and checking out the realm b4 you try anything on it, if the problem is still there id guess that you got a currupted or already edited mud dll if thats the case try dl a version of mud from i think it might be panterra x's ftp or someones i cant remember where i got mine but its ok cept that someone has changed the dll or something that the platinum mace is in the middle of the dragons i believe but other than that its all good.

Re: Need help ASAP! This is major wierd
I haven't even done anything to mud through Nightmare yet. Sure, I looked at the database through Nightmare, but I didn't make any changes. How could I have a corrupted or already edited mud dll? I legitimatly own Majormud and Worldgroup and am installing from the files I've downloaded from Metropolis and WG. I'm guessing that whatever is wrong is something with Nightmare (downloaded it off of sourceforge) because I'm installing from the same files I've always used before their was problems. Oh, am running v1.11ipatch NT, mods 1-9
Re: Need help ASAP! This is major wierd
i *think* the problem is, you are running 1.11h. this version was fucked from the beginning. if you are going to run it, thats fine, but the problem with the crap all over will clean up as soon as the database update is finished. (after the first time you start the realm..just stand there in the realm and watch the WG log and it will tell you when it completes.) after that, take the board down and run a floor sweep. that will clean up all the crap laying around, except for all the bullshit stuff like the iceforge anvil at TS. your best bet is to d/l a copy of 1.11i and find the patch that accompanies it. (look for a post from Lord Soth, he has them both on his FTP site..link is in his sig.)
as for the errors, i dont think nightmare caused these. once you get the board stable, install nightmare into it own directory (do not put it in WG directory) copy all the wcc*.* DATS from the WG directory to the nightmare directory. load up nightmare, it will give you errors the first time you run it..just keep clicking ok to proceed. then shut it down. the next time you load it, you wont get any errors.
make all your edits from nightmare, DO A DATABASE COMPILE. close out nightmare. copy the wccupda2 from the nightmare directory to the WG directory. load up WG, enter the realm, and let it do its update. (you will not notice any of your changes until after the update is completely installed).
thats the way i do my edits and i dont have any problems anymore. if that dont work, let us know (in the correct forum of course)

Re: Need help ASAP! This is major wierd
If you don't have nightmare in your WG directory, you need to tell it which directory your files are in too, don't forget that one. I do my edits on the dats that are being read from the WG directory. Helps when doing rooms so things don't poof when you put in the new room dat and things that were dropped after your last update will disappear cuz they're not in your "backup" dat. I don't know if I made sense. But whatever works for ya. I think it really only matters for people who do tons of room updates like I do.

Re: Need help ASAP! This is major wierd
Well, I'm running 1.11ipatch
Nightmare is in it's own default directory. And I haven't even made any changes yet with Nightmare, am only using it as a viewer so far. If I could just get mud back to the way it was before (normal), I'll be happy

Re: Need help ASAP! This is major wierd
*NOTE* Whenever installing a realm for the first time, make sure to install worldgroup to a directory like C:\worldgroup then install your MajorMUD realm. 3rd, startup the server and sit in majormud until its done initializing (if you dont do this you will have problems). Once all is kosher, exit and shutdown the server then install Nightmare to its default directory. It will prompt you to direct it to where worldgroup is installed (dont install it to your worldgroup directory). Load up nightmare again. The BTRIEVE 20 error i believe links to the file GALBCLS.DLL

if you copy the dats to the nightmare directory, just shutting it down and restarting it won't do anything. you can put that dat's anywhere you want. just go into the settings and set the dat path.

nightmare saves the current record when you switch records (it says this in the general help). NMR wouldn't be corrupting your databases unless you are using dat's that are already corrupted or were not converted to the new mod9 format correctly (this is why i suggested just installing v1.11i fresh in the other thread you posted about this).

when I do my tests with nightmare I never just copy the wccupda2.dat into the bbs to have it update. it's still unclear as to what that actually does. we know when the update runs though it doesn't delete records from that real dats that aren't in the update.dat. i always edit the dats sitting in the wg directory.

Re: Need help ASAP! This is major wierd
the reason i copy all the dats into the nightmare directory is so i can do edits while the board is up and running. i always update by copying the wccupda2 and i never have preoblems, as long as i let it run thru the entire update before trying to see any changes. i also have a backup copy of all my wcc*.* files in a complete seperate directory, as well as a backup of the wccupda2 that is the last working file i compliled. just as a safeguard. yeah, it seems like alot of work, but when you do alot of edits, like i am in the process of, and something goes wrong, i dont want to lose all my work. i may be taking the long way around things, but my board runs stable, and i very rarely see errors of any kind. someday, when i get all my edits in line and quests working like i want them to, im gonna open it up and you can all check it out. but until then, its just me running around checkin all the bullshit.
