telnet [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by dxpac666 »

I dont really know where else to post this so I'll put it here. I have a MAJOR problem. Ok my board is up and running just fine (sinisterurge.dhs.org for anyone who doesnt know ) BUT I, for some reason, cannot telnet into it. Weather using Megamud, or the regular telnet thingie thru the run button in windows. Weather I use my new puter or my old one, it doesn't matter... I CANNOT telnet in. In mega I get a message like this:

Telnet Error 00002AFC (GetHostByName)

Valid name, no data record of requested type.

what the hell does this mean? Am I screwed? Can I fix this? Does anyone have a clue? This sucks not bein able to play on my board board. The only way I can log on is through the local server, but I can't script thru that, or backscroll, or.. well anyone whos an op knows. HELP PLEASE

Ok I have a different question now and a warning to any of my users. I finally managed to log on to my board but I couldn't use SINISTERURGE.DHS.ORG I had to use the IP numbers. I have NEVER told anyone the numbers except my cosysop and a couple other people who dont even play, so everyone online has only known the SINISTER one... so they used that and logged on just fine. Why is it me and my cosysop were singled out? And for the record, if anyone has any problems using sinisterurge.dhs.org, try telnetting to 24.22.31.48, that should work... worked for me. Something screwy goin on here... even tho I can log on I'd still like to know what happened if anyone can tell me.

first, are you sure that sinisterurge.dhs.org relays you to your ip? a quick and easy way to tell is to ping it. go to command prompt or cmd and type

ping sinisterurge.dhs.org

and btw, anybody with 1/18th of a brain could do this and find out yer IP, so you're not THAT safe there buddy.

that's what i'm thinking, that it doesn't relay you. that's the only thing i can think of... and it is completely fixable.

I know exactly what the problem is, i used to host sinisters domain name on DHS international, well DHS decided to threaten me about hosting hexed bbs's. So i was forced to have my account there deleted along with my hosted domain names.

[root@localhost root]# ping sinisterurge.dhs.org

ping: unknown host sinisterurge.dhs.org

C:\WINDOWS\Desktop>ping sinisterurge.dhs.org

Unknown host sinisterurge.dhs.org.

[root@localhost root]# ping 24.22.31.48

PING 24.22.31.48 (24.22.31.48) from x.x.x.x: 56(84) bytes of data.

64 bytes from 24.22.31.48: icmp_seq=0 ttl=116 time=86.080 msec

64 bytes from 24.22.31.48: icmp_seq=1 ttl=116 time=99.968 msec

64 bytes from 24.22.31.48: icmp_seq=2 ttl=116 time=119.982 msec

Do you even have an active account right now? Check the settings - also.. are you sure that's the correct address? Usually, these services allow you to have different domains - maybe you selected another one and forgot?

And, the fact that it works for some and not others... that's almost impossible. The only explanation that pops into my head now is that your ISP is having problems with their DNS if that's the case.

Well... I was wondering how so many people were still logging in even with it messed up. They had gotten the addy from my cosysop or someone he gave it to, and he knew the #'s and not the sinisterurge.dhs.org part or whatever, so thats how they were still getting on. Had one of em try the addy and it didnt work, so it isnt just me. Now that I understand what it is.... Hey Inivisigod... Hook me up again

24.22.31.48 doesn't work to connect to your bbs.

I've tried to connect many times, and using the sinister addy or ip, never been able to connect=\
