on my Mazda pickup. When I first start it in the morning (but not every morning, its random) or sometimes when it has been sitting all day at work... The idle is really fast, and I can't get it to slow down until I take it out onto the highway and run it in 5th gear at 70 mph for 30 mins. Now, my throttle cable is really loose, but the linkage is tight. My choke is WIDE open all the time this is happening, and I cant get the f***er to close...
So what the f**k is happening, is my POS truck finally about to die? Oh my milage is 331,675 km (206093.29 miles)
side note: Dad decided he didn't want to buy the GMC, (even though I was paying for 1/2) bastard....

maybe a vacuum leak. Maybe your throttle plate is sticking from buildup.
Take off your intake hose to expose the throttle body. Look at it and see if it's all nasty. If it is, clean it out with throttle body cleaner. Then lightly spray while running to clean through intake system. Your vehicle will produce some white smoke while you're doing this, but it's a good thing.
If you're dealing with a vacuum leak, you'll obviously be able to track it down by listening for the air sucking sound while sitting at idle. Some you can just plug up and be on your way, but others will need to be either taped up or replaced. Both of these suggestions may or maynot help you out, but they're both cheap as all hell and will help your vehicle out anyways.

get some spray carb cleaner and spray it at the base of your throttle body (carb) if it runs faster then you have a vacumn leak there.
That high mileage it could be several things. worst case valve leak best case bad vacumn lines. lots to search through and look at.

if you spray any throttle body with carb cleaner, they will idle higher...you're introducing a highly flamable substance to the intake....that's how the corvair starts when it's cold...spray the carbs.

I thought it might have been a vacuum leak as well, I did the throttle body spray. If it was a vacuum leak, it would be all the time. Which it isn't I can go a few days without it idling like mad. Which lead me to think it was a stuck choke, The choke is fine, opens and closes normally. Now it still might be the choke and it at random sticks open...
I'm on the hunt for another 4cyl pickup now, toyota or Chevy S10, or a low mileage Mazda (keep mine for parts). I have an ad on Vancouver Craigslist trying to sell a set of GM Centerlines or trade them for another truck. We'll see how that goes....

Bullet proof.....man, i want a bullet proof motor. Remember in ace ventura when he was in the car chase and rolled his car like 5 times...then he just cranked it a few times and drove off...that's how i want my motor...i want my car to be the ultimate getaway car....just incase.
