Ok so I have a 1991 Mazda B2200 Pickup, I have a limited slip read diff.
(least I think that is what it is called, cause when I get stuck, only one tire spins or they alternate between spinning and digging me a deeper hole )
Anyways, IF it is possible, what I want to do is put a locking diff in, or swap the gears.
Would it be possible to swap a rear end from a B2600 to a B2200 (2600 is a 4x4, I only want the rear diff)...
Does anyone know if this is possible?

what you need to do is look at the rear end of a 2600 and compare everything from size,length,width,mounts, and driveshaft to what you already have. It is possible that you might be able to bolt-on the whole unit lickedy split.

That is what I am hoping for. I can get an entire rear diff for less than $100. I'll have to wander over to the Mazda dealer and ask one of the mechanics.
Failing that, I'll pull my diff apart, and put the gears from the 2600 into my diff. A hell of alot more work, and alot more things to go wrong.

good luck swapping gears. It's not as easy as just pulling them out and putting in new ones. Do you have the required tools?

I actually can be done that easy, providing nothing slips out, or goes horribly wrong. Which in my case, that is exactly what would happen...
The guy at Mazda. "Why dont you just buy a new 4x4". IF I could afford a new truck, dontcha think I would be talking to the guys out front... (muttering under breath, dumbass)

Dumbass "well technically speaking it would be possible, however you have a 1991 and they were the cross over period, the new body style. 1991 B2200 will only fit a 1991 B2200."
me: So your saying NO it isn't possible for this year. Correct....
Dumbass " Well if you had a pre-1990 or post-1992, it would be possible.

I wouldn't listen to that guy. Try going to a junk yard. Find the junk yard mechanic(you'll know it's him by following the smell) and ask him what can be done. I don't believe this guy at all. Even if the housings are different, the whole unit should be able to swap out as long as the lengths are close to the same. You might just need a different drive shaft and a little welding. Hell, If I can put a 9 inch ford into a s-10, then i think a different mazda rear could hook up.

First of all what you have is an "open" differential, and what you are looking for is a "limited slip" differential. You can swap for any rear end you want to, as long as springs are in the same place and they are the same width. Read ends aren't different between 2 and 4 wheel drive mazdas. If the back of the rear ends are the same diameter you can just swap the innards out of one case to the other without a problem.

That's what i'm thinking. I couldn't see Mazda making their differentials that much different from each other. Especially same year. That would've cost them alot more money for production. Dealership mechanics are usually douche bags.(hence the reason no real mechanic works for them). There's gonna be a way to make it work. I'd try swapping the gears first if it's gonna be as simple as that. I know putting the 373 gears into my plymouth required alot of shims and patience. Not really sure how it'd go with yours, but if porkinbone says that it should work, i'd listen to him. He seems to have a good idea of the whole thing. That'd be the cheapest place to start anyways. If that doesn't work, then worry about pulling the rear off for a swap. You should put a dually rear on there.lol, that'd look sick. I got some Richmond 557 gears if you know anybody who needs em. lol. I've been trying to get rid of those things for a while. lol.

if the springs will match bolt it in. just make sure you have a welder handy to make the shock mounts work. also get the drive line too so you can cut the tail joint off and weld it to your shaft, you can pinch off the back brakelines so they won't leak who needs back brakes anyway.

mwuhaha I have ABS rear brakes that um have been um modified to stop them from leaking. my ebrake kindda works (sometimes). I have a little 70A stick welder...
I might end up selling the Mazda and buy a 6cyl Chev, or a diesel Dodge Ram. I just tried to pull my 16' boat, and I ripped the bumper off. I welded it back on, and managed to tow my boat to the shipyard. But the Mazda doesn't like the boat, so I need to get a real truck.
