welp, i've decided that it's time to upgrade the CPU in my laptop. replacing my Go 6800 vanilla was not enough, but it got the ball rolling for my future intentions. i had always hoped and planned to upgrade my cpu/video. trading seems to be the best way for me to accomplish my goals most of the time. i successfully traded my GeForce Go 6800 vanilla for the Ultra flavor. vanilla = 300/600 (effective) while the Ultra is 450/1064 (effective.) knowing that the GeForce 6 series is a highly efficient GPU you can realize that those clock differenes have a significant impact on the performance. in fact the common ratio is around .2. as computed from 56(fps)/280(clock) and 53/250 both tested in the real world. so 450 * .2 = 90 fps in doom 3 based on just the gpu frequency a lone not including the 400+ MHz memory increase. i think going from 53 FPS to 90 FPS on average is quite an improvement in a game like doom 3 with a free upgrade.
i became interested in upgrading my CPU in the same way. i wanted to cross-trade my Pentium M 750 1.86GHz 533 FSB for a Pentium M 735/745 400 FSB that was pinmoddable (overclockable) to 2.26/2.4GHz. Pentium M is already clock for clock faster than the Athlon 64 and such an upgrade would result in 400+ MHz. all pinmodding does is overclock the FSB of a Pentium M from 400 to 533. Well to say the least P-M 750s are not hot commodities in the trading community, but eventually i devised a plan that would work out for everybody. my plan was to eBay my CPU while explicitly declaring a 3-4 day wait before shipping. that clause helped a lot. the end result was my chip selling for exactly the price i needed to purchase the Pentium M 735 1.7GHz 400 FSB.
now based on the cpu scaling of Doom 3 (since it's my reference point for performance) i am estimating an at leat 13% performance increase in doom3. i hope to approach or break 100 FPS. it is known that the GeForce Go 6800 Ultra is a bit faster than the desktop 6800 GT. My Pentium M 750 is ~ 3400MHz in P4 standards and will be ~4150MHz P4 @ 2.26GHz.

it uses pentium m 533 FSB chips
i had a 1.86GHz processor
everything is locked
but you can throw in a pentium m 400 FSB and put a pin in to overclock the FSB to 533
so a 1.7GHz 400 FSB is 2.26GHz 533 FSB
with the pin
well i bought one of them
turns out the chip doesn't run too well at stock voltage
so you have to use pins to adjust the voltage
i'm up to 1.420V 55C max torture load
at 1.404V it only lasted for 19minutes in prime95
