Syntax [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by War Hawk »

Yah know, This guy needs some uber credit. If it weren't for a ton of things that he's done for the undergound majormud community, I don't think it would be as large as it is. I constantly cruise the forums and see board popping up with their own custom edits and they all use a tool that he developed. Syntax has been an inspiration to many of those sysops out there. Hold the flames, if it wasn't for his vision of an awesome editor that came to be, none of the great bbses would exist as they do now.

Then to top it off he creates one heck of a viewer that just blows away all other competition in the offline utility department. I feel that he hasn't been properly recognized for it. It seems like everyone uses it and that is one of the first things they ask for when going to a new BBS. "Is there a MMUD Explorer datafile for this board?" Its just amazing how much one person can change a community including MudCentral!

But most of all, he is one hell of a friend and I am extremely happy to have had the pleasure to have known him. We've had out ups and downs, but I think thats what makes a true friend. They can bounce back from anything and be able to come out ahead.

Thank you Syntax for all that you have done.

And that without even speaking of all the bbses he personally had a hand in aiding while starting up. If ever a member of this community was deserving of praise for his efforts, it would be this guy! That post should get sticky status warhawk. Thanks for reminding all of the work Syntax has, and continues to, put in.

Thank you Syntax for your efforts, they have payed off on bbses I doubt you even have seen or heard of, and many more within the MMB community. WG should have created utilities, like those you have provided, years and years ago, so ops could more easily edit MajorMud to fit their over all bbs(es).

I have never even looked at your software, but even I know the importance it DID have on the MM games I play and enjoy.

along with that, gotta give props to pervasive for keeping btrieve alive and providing active x ocx's for visualbasic. without pervasive syntax would be left to reverse engineer the database system, probably wouldn't be to clean of an approach, but thank goodness this doesn't have to happen. cheers!

Even when you have what seems to be a dumb question to others the man will go damn near out of his way to try to explain what you are doing wrong and make you see what you are doing so you can understand how to avoid the same troubles in the future. Not many folks around like that anymore! Good to see someone take the time and effort in helping so many others. BIG PROPS SYN!

Hey, man, some of us say 'thank you' and give other praise over different media than the forums. I don't think post count is indicitive of actual appreciation.

I often ask to suck his cyber-weenie.

But yeah, he's the man. Edited BBS's would likely not exist without him. Nor would I attain the title of monkey with a typewriter..

Yes by all means, Props to Syntax for creating NMR and making life easier, but he isn't the originator of edited boards. long before NMR some of us used HEX.
