Ok here goes my attemp at legal stuff

Post by alucarD »

Ok I have been doing major research and the last public demo for Wg was 3.20 for win or nt and major mud I think it was g or h.... could anyone please help me by pointing me in the right direction to getting these... THIS IS NOT A PIRACY ATTEMPT. This is an attempt to find public software I am not repeat NOT looking for codes or product numbers...

I am also looking for the complete demo of tw2002 for Wg or mbbs I would like it better in mbbs since I can't stand the newest version....

Also mutants, lords of cyberspace, I have a public copy of telearena 5.6c and I found my old legal copy of mbbs 6.25 thanks for the help and time

Bites and Kisses alucarD \/----\/

Btw I am learning to program in c++ and I have learned visual Basic 6.0

If you have any other programming stuff I should learn please let me know.

Also I saw a source code for WG for a 486 compile would love o look at it and see about porting it and speeding it up I have 1 year and 6 months before I can go out and get a job

Thanks again

err, what's wrong with TradeWars Game Server?

It's a million times better than the mbbs/wg version of tw2002... that's why all the old mbbs/wg tradewars players now play on TW Game Server sites instead!

My problem with TWGS is that when i got out and started researching tw stuff again they treated me like crap... I was asking questions and they did not answer any of my questions and they keept pushing for a date that i was going to buy a copy... i have bought reg codes for the doors version but i lost them when i was arested. my mother threw out every thing i had on computers books notes print outs and every thing... i asked them how to go about getting those reccords and they told me that i should crack the program and then buy there server stuff to run my tw game.... forgive me but that is how i got in trouble in the first place....

twgs may be getting money from me in the long run but i would much rather try and get the tw i rember and loved playing

and also most of the helpers i have dont support 20k sectros and i don't have that kind of time for just 1 game

Sorry but that really does NOT sound like John Pritchett to me. He still sells TW2002 normal regs and there's no reason whatsoever that he'd tell you to crack it. You need a normal tw2002 reg in order to use TWGS anyway. And I've also never heard of John not re-sending a lost registration. Sorry but this sounds a little fishy.

TWGS is completely configurable in every possible way. You don't need to set it to 20k sectors (in fact, I'd highly discourage it, 20k sector games suck unless they have 100+ active players).

Learning to program in c++, and you want to see the wg source? I thought it was written in pascal?

Anyways, your best bet to learn TCP stacks is to pick up a book, and just start. It doenst take long to set up a server system with *nix, or use winsock2 if you use windows. You'll learn alot more about buffering inputs, dealing with IAC telnet codes, local echoing vs client echoing, etc.

Then once you get the basic bbs set up, you could add in modules.

I bought TWGS from John and a year later i lost my code, he was nice enuff to email me back my exsisting code. I've always found him to be very helpful and responsive.

WorldGroup is indeed coded in C++.

The source code is not legally available for distribution, though. Some sysops purchased it a long time ago, but are not at ALL legally allowed to distribute it.

The last legally open-source Galacticomm release is MajorBBS 2.2, circa late 80's. It's written in C. It's completely useless for modern purposes, and won't run any modules, probably won't even run on Windows :(

Yeah, same here... hence alucarD's explanation sounding a bit fishy to me...
