How about an Editing Forum? [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by Sven »

Ok, with nightmare, editing has become very easy. Everyone trys to make their own boards with their own edits, but what about having a place where we can share textblocks, areas, monsters, items, etc. People would have to fill out a general description of information about the file they put up.

For example..a general area file would look like:

Name: Temple of Doom

Size: 45 rooms

Map: 35

Rooms: 4000-4045

Monsters: ####

Boss Room(s): 4043,4042

Textblocks: ####

Items: ####

Comments:

Something like this, making sure to provide all the relevent information for referencing.

Basically, I've seen a lot of great edits just disappear because boards go down, so if you are taking your board down, this would be a place to stick edits that you did for other to use.

Also, I think map #s are unlimited (or are they?) so people should try to use unique#s where they can to prevent criss-crossing. Same goes for items, monsters, etc.

Basically, thats a good idea however, we have tried it in the past and it didn't work out so well.

not sure how many people are willing to post their edits... If you can demonstrate that people would even use such a section, then i'll try to put one up. And by "use", I don't mean people who just go to download - i mean people who actually would contribute.

Well, i think you'd 1st have to have a rule not to flame any posts, given the past history of this forum, that would be a problem. So to prevent posts from getting spammed out, only have "constructive criticisms". I guess I could poll it?

Also, Ghost, when was one put up? I never saw one so just curious..

i would put a whole section on NMR's website for custom edits as long as ppl are willing to submit. in the past, that hasn't been the case.

if there was a way to make generic imports and exports, it'd be fine, but when some edits conflict, it becomes a problem, I mean I would love to see a board with all the edits, and then others that are unique (or only part and then added on)

Until NMR can make generic exports and imports (which has been tried to be worked on in the past, but is a pain in the ass) it might not be worth the trouble, unless you have a forum for requested areas and then submitted examples, kinda like a contest or something.

*nudge nudge Syntax* I know it's a pain, but when (read: if) you get the generic import/export in, you could make an area contest :)
