So the more material things we achieve in life, the further away we get to heaven? So we are all supposed to wear rags, and scrape for food to be closest to heaven? What if the world to me is my child? I have no gained the world and lost my soul?
My position on religion, is I believe in a holy spirit or a higher power...but at the same time I dont understand a lot. I know I am not supposed to understand blah blah blah...but like that verse, if no one strived for power or leadership, or material things, then how would we have formed a society? So we are now back at cave men. Are we supposed to still be cavemen?
I honestly dont try to put anything down, but I just dont get this stuff.

actually brunt, you had some of it down.... but not all of it, the part about being in rags and still being in caveman age is way beside the point....

The first line doesn't mean you shouldn't go after anything. It has more to do with 'moderation'. What does it take to become a ruler? Napoleon and Genghis Khan learned that it takes a formidable army and ruthless leadership. However, they got themselves killed trying to conquer.
You can acquire materials throughout life, but remember, you can't take it with you, so why bother amssing so much that you don't know what to do with it. If you can't even use it in this life, what do you think you're going to do with it after? May as well give away your surplus material possessions.
Just my interpretations.

Well, who says he has to lose his soul after gaining the world? ;)
If I won the lotto and never had to work a day in my life..I know I still would. I would start my own company(or atleast do something with the one I already have).
Just a question then...Is Bill Gates going to hell? True, he may own an organization for giving donations..but you dont think thats just a huge tax write off for him? He gives 1 million dollars to schools, oh he is so nice...to bad the government takes that off his taxes(In reality, the government gave them that million dollars).
He has such a "surplus", and its not all cash or any real value unless he sells his stocks and such..but he is worth a lot, and has lots of money. Does that automatically make him go to hell? I dont know the guy..he might go to church every sunday and be the nicest guy in the world, or a total prick.
