Telnetting into WG3.3 from windows XP pro HELP!

Ok here is the deal, any help is greatly appreciated. I have installed worldgroup 3.3 server, set up an account at dyndns.org, configured my router to forward requests on port 23-to-port 23 on my local LAN. yet, when i do a CMD and telnet... or via megamud.. i get the connection was actively refused. There is no check in the advanced properties of my network connection for firewall. I cant get users outside of my lan into my bbs.. here are some of my specifics..



Windows XP Professional.

LINKSYS 4port DSL router

Worldgroup 3.3x (still in demo version)

Majormud M but not currently installed.

What's the IP that you are using to connect with?



Try 127.0.0.1 and see if you can telnet in.

what is your local IP (start>run ipconfig), what is the ip of your network (www.whatismyip.com). did you make sure that it's actually forwarding to the correct local IP, did you make sure to have the dyndns.org setup for your network IP rather than your local IP...

im going to ass-u-me you set it up for an internal ip via router dhcp

lets say its 192.168.0.1 ... you should be able to connect with the cpu its running on by telnetting to 192.168.0.1 ... im not sure if that router is also lets you share files and shit but if it does then you should be able to connect with any cpu on your lan... if not youll have to use your external ip (or dyn dns)



as long as you have the port forewarded correctly (to the right ip of the wgserver machine) people should be able to connect...



ping is your friend... when in doubt ping the other machine...



also you said you were still in demo mode... so i ass-u-me you just installed...

check your wg hardware settings and make sure you have some tcp/ip channels set up

FIRST MAKE SURE THE WORLDGROUP SERVER IS RUNNING!





From the machine that the WORLDGROUP SERVER SOFTWARE is installed on:



1. start/run: cmd

2. ipconfig

3. write down ip address (192.169.1.100)

4. exit

5. start/run: telnet ***IP ADDRESS you wrote down***



From a secondary machine on the NETWORK:

1. start/run: telnet ***IP ADDRESS THAT YOU GOT FROM YOUR WORLDGROUP SERVER MACHINE***

Exactly what i was going to write about. I cant use forwarding with dhcp enabled on my router (flaw with linksys' model) so it has to be set static. I did so. after a few hours of tinkering and hair pulling i descover people can connect via my name i registered with dyndns. Yet i cant. I can only connect with the machines local ip. I checked all my settings on my router and nic for a while and thought i was crazy. but here it does work.

ok.. one more thing. How do i get the old bbs console windows look on wg instead of that grey plain one? i have it on my other machine and i dont know how i did it. any info is appreciated.

Ok i made a few edits and now i get console windows instead of the grey wg screen.. odd? is that ok??
