Ok well then what would you have to use the compile update for? just changes to the realms rooms, items, shops etc? you can do a user live? as long as he is not in the realm at the time? seems like it..

o well thanks agian

from nmr general help under section number 3 - "About the update file":

-> just a note, the databases that are compiled into the wccupda2.dat file are: races, classes, monsters, items, spells, rooms, shops, actions, textblocks, and messages.

Yeah, Ldap. Changes to USERS don't require updates. Sometimes, if you edit live dats, the edits will immediately go in..most times they won't. Most times they won't even stick. Your best bet (unless editing users) is to shut down WG, copy wcc*.dat to a new directory (say, c:/Editingdats [mines aaaEditingDats so I don't have to scroll to look for it ;)]) and edit/compile from there. That way, you can copy the update file from your editing directory straight into your WG directory (even with the BBS running) and get on with a sysop and apply an update.
