I don't really think metro is doing "badly" per say. I'm sure they only have a handful of employees, and they can surely afford their salaries if you consider all of metro's revenue sources (majormud sales, paying bbs users on the 10+ bbs's they run, lord sales, gameport pc game sales, 80s server paying users, etc)
From what I've been told, Metro is a small division of a fleet fuel card company called MultiService, which has no shortage of cash flow...

Metro's real source of money from MMud is the perchases of new Mods.. Who spends $2000 for a text based game anymore.
Most of the new boards that come out are either pirated or are second hand

okay, u pay a programmer how much a year??? lets say if they get paid $30,000 a year and metro releases 1 mod a year for $150 a pop. They would have to sell 2,000 codes to pay off 1 programmer.. MMud would be better off as freeware now.
Re: Legend of the Green Dragon [Archive] - ForumsHQ
Nod thats why mmud is a small part of Metro's products. To my understanding, they only have one coder and either hes asigned more important stuff and works on mmud when he has time or the postition doesnt pay alot at all

Re: Legend of the Green Dragon [Archive] - ForumsHQ
where the hell did they get a million dollars?
if I added up everyone i knew that played for the last 6 years and they all payed 5$ a month it'd still be no where near a million..
including thier mods

read above what evan said about who owns metro...
Re: Legend of the Green Dragon [Archive] - ForumsHQ
the point is, is mmud a 1 million dollar industry? Why would any corporation pay a mil when they won't make it back? Maybe they thought they would, or maybe I am mistaken and they really did make that much, if they however made anywhere over 300 grand, surely I'd be impressed.
Re: Legend of the Green Dragon [Archive] - ForumsHQ
Sorry but I highly doubt they paid $1 million for majormud or anything close to that figure... if I had to guess they maybe paid in the $25,000 to $75,000 range, but that's a totally random estimate. Keep in mind that at the end of the WCC days, WCC was barely working on the game and probably just wanted to unload it at a not-overly-steep price.
I've always wondered how much Metro paid for LORD. It's entirely possible that LORD has made its original author more money than MajorMud... judging from the number of LORD registrations that Seth Robinson has said he sold, LORD made him over half a million dollars. Not bad for such an extremely simple text game!
