AMD or Pentium??? [Archive] - ForumsHQ
Im building a new pc, but im having problems deciding which type of processor to install. Ive had AMD's before, but ive had problems with both of the ones ive had (Older model ones, ,athlon 800 and K7?) Ive never had any problems out of Intel chips. Which would you all choose? Im using it primarly for gaming. And what are the reasons that ones better than the other?
Re: AMD or Pentium??? [Archive] - ForumsHQ
intel are generally the more expensive, a tad faster than AMD, and come out with the faster speeds first usually.
amd is cheaper and imho runs colder than the intel chips

i personallly like AMD. i dont have any factual reasons why, but just over the years in using both types i dont think the intel chips provide enough of a performance boost to cover the added cost.
my desktop is an amd 1.2 (XP 1600+ or something), server an amd 1.0, and laptop an intel p4 (dell lappy and they only use intel).

AMD
...I've seen several AMD 1.4Ghtz run faster than a few Pentium 2Ghtz...

amd ... runs colder than the intel chips
you're on crack lol...
intel spends lots of time and money making sure that their chips run really cool for their performance.
well, either way if you don't go retail for cpu, you're missing out because getting a custom fan that will work well with the cpu is a huge pain in the ass and a lot more $$
IMO if you have the money pentium is the way to go

amd does run much hotter than intel....but for the preformance and price AMD all the way!
Re: AMD or Pentium??? [Archive] - ForumsHQ
I've had both AMD and Intel, and in my experience, AMD's clock speeds are higher than Intel's. AMD does have >some< compatability problems, but if you go with something like an MSI motherboard, you shouldn't have any problems. I build computers as a side job, and use AMD exclusively unless the customer specifically requests Intel.

just something interesting about CPU's that many ppl probably don't know ...
different speed CPU's are all made the same way and they actually don't make a 1.2, a 2.0, a 1.6, etc. they make all the chips and then test to see what speed they can go up to without becoming unstable. the chips speed is all depdentant on the quality of the components and the quality of the contruction. and since the chips are made from so many minerals and elements the final outcome varies. this is also why overclocking is possible. of course there is a range for the lowest and highest it will go based on whatever technology they're using to make the chips. the rarer picks of the litter would be the higher speed and more pricy chips.

exactly....
i've never put together an intel MB and processor. i've worked on a ton of pentiums, but as far as building them and placing them in the first time, i've never done it...
the 30+ computers i've built have ALL been AMD
